Anthony Davis is having a great year. He led the Kentucky Wildcats to a national championship, he will be a top NBA Draft pick, and now could have the chance to win an Olympic gold medal with Team USA.
USA Basketball president Jerry Colangelo announced, “After a lot of deliberations, after reviewing our roster, we think these two additions strengthen our National Team program immeasurably. James Harden probably is the sixth man of the year in the NBA, and Anthony Davis brings a dimension to our pool we don’t have. He’s young, but it’s exciting to think about the possibilities.”
Davis and Oklahoma City guard James Harden now have a chance to be selected for a spot to represent the United States in London.
The other players with a chance to play for Team USA are:
Guards: Deron Williams, Chris Paul, Dwyane Wade, Russell Westbrook, Kobe Bryant, Eric Gordon
Forwards: LeBron James, Kevin Durant, Carmelo Anthony, Chris Bosh, Blake Griffin, Kevin Love, Andre Iguodala, Rudy Gay.
Center: Tyson Chandler.
Team USA needed to add more players after Dwight Howard, Derrick Rose, Chauncey Billups and LaMarcus Aldridge were ruled out because of injury. Also Lamar Odom will not be considered after his lost season.
The final roster will be selected by June 18.
