The Argentine national team has insured the NBA contracts of Manu Ginobili, Andres Nocioni, Luis Scola and Carlos Delfino, clearing the way for them to play in this summer's FIBA tournament.
The San Antonio Express-News reported that Ginobili and his long-time national teammates will be clear to play for Argentina at no risk of losing money due to injury. Ginobili plays for San Antonio, Nocioni for Philadelphia, Delfino for Milwaukee and Scola for Houston.
Ginobili suffered a hyperextended and fractured right elbow late last season and has been told to rest until mid-August.
The FIBA Americas Championship runs from Aug. 30-Sept. 11, 2011 in Mar del Plata, Argentina. The finalists both qualify for the 2012 Olympics.
The hosts are considered the favorites as the United States already has qualified for the 2012 Olympics by winning the 2010 World Championship and is not participating.
