According to the AJC’s Michael Cunningham, Ferry has reached out the Magic in hopes to swing a deal that would bring Dwight Howard back to his hometown of Atlanta.
The Hawks have engaged the Magic in trade talks involving Howard, according to a person with knowledge of the discussions. That person did not want to be identified because the teams involved have not discussed the negotiations publicly.
The Hawks could offer Orlando better players than the Nets. But Atlanta could run the risk of trading away valuable assets only to lose Howard in free agency when his contract expires after next season.

Mark and McNeill talked about Deron Williams signing with the Nets, where Dwight Howard might land, why Steve Nash shouldn't be blasted for landing with the Lakers, and a whole bunch of other news surrounding free agency and trades.
Jerry Stackhouse wouldnt mind having Dwight Howard as his new teammate. But if it doesnt happen, he still believes foes need to watch out for Brooklyn.
Stackhouse, 37, said by phone Wednesday he will sign a one-year deal with the Nets for the veterans minimum of 1.35 million. Soon hell find out if Howard, who could be traded from Orlando to Brooklyn, will be a teammate.
