The Sports Point:

August will probably be remembered most for the Olympics with Michael Phelps and the Redeem Team. It was a pretty off-the-wall month outside of Beijing, but it was a great way to lead us up to football season. Let's take a look back at the best stories on TSP from the month.
An Ohio University lineman won $172,500 in a lottery, missing the $34 million Mega Ball prize by just one number. Unfortunately, that won't help him at all when the Bobcats line up against Ohio State this weekend.
The "Redeem Team" took China by storm, eventually putting on a display reminiscent of the "Dream Team" in 1992. We aren't sure who was more excited about the team we sent over, the USA or China. As seen in this photo gallery, the Chinese were US basketball fans from the beginning.
Patriots quarterback Tom Brady was on the cover of Esquire magazine, but his interview outweighed his photo spread for once. Along with a repeated use of the f-bomb, Brady said God "could give a shit" about football.
One of the best headlines we've ever seen came from an Israeli newspaper following Phelps' stunning victory in the 4 x 100m Free Final. It simply read, "Two Jews and a black man help Phelps fulfill dream."
Former NBA player Vincent Askew was charged with three counts of sexual battery of a 16-year-old girl after telling her he was a high school and wanted to recruit her to his team.
The United States won another Little League World Series thanks to the boys from Hawaii, but there was disturbing news from youth baseball in Connecticut. Tom Barbero, who umpired for nearly 30 years, won an award for his hard work, despite the fact he was a convicted sex offender.
A 17-year-old from Vermilion, Ohio, was trying to get reinstated to his high school football team even though he had just pleaded guilty to gross sexual imposition after being accused of rape.
