Tweet Some twins are difficult to tell apart, and some like it that way. Apparently Portland Trail Blazers big man Robin Lopez doesn’t like being told that he and his All-Star identical twin brother Brook Lopez — who plays for the Brooklyn Nets — look alike. Robin wears his hair in a wild ‘fro, while Brook goes with a more conservative close cut look, but giving himself a distinctly different look from Brook wasn’t by design, says Robin. Check out his quotes from a recent fun interview with CSN Northwest’s Chris Haynes: “I honestly don’t remember (why he let it grow wild),” Lopez responded. “There’s nothing really extraordinary about it. It’s not like it has super hero powers or anything. There’s no mystique about it. It’s just very pedestrian.” Was it done to differentiate yourself from Brook, your identical twin? “People are going to be morons,” he said. “If people can’t tell us apart, they’re going to be morons either way. Letting my hair grow had nothing to do with trying to look different from Brook.” I came back with “But you guys do look alike.” And he looked me dead in the eyes and promptly replied in his deep voice, “no we don’t.” The tone of the interview suggests that Robin was joking, but you have to wonder if when Robin started growing his hair out around the eighth grade if he left it wild as a way to differentiate himself from his brother a bit. Siblings that are close in age often purposely do things to separate themselves from each other, so we wouldn’t be surprised if this was much the same situation. The Lopez brothers aren’t the only set of twins in the NBA; Marcus and Markieff Morris both play for the Phoenix Suns and are near identical in almost everything, by choice. I guess you can never quite predict how twins will turn out, but playing in the NBA with your twin brother has to be a special sentiment. H/T to ProBasketballTalk -ALR
