PORTLAND -- Overtime victories over the Houston Rockets are getting to be habit for the Portland Trail Blazers. Nicolas Batum tied his career high with 35 points and rookie Damian Lillard put up 18 of his season-high 27 points after intermission as Portland upended Houston 119-117 in overtime Friday night at the Rose Garden. It was the second overtime win over the Rockets in two weeks. The Blazers prevailed 95-85 at Houston on Nov. 3. "We're probably going to be in the same range (in the standings) with them toward the end of the season," said Lillard, who scored 11 points in the fourth quarter and another five in the extra session. "And they're in the Western Conference like us, so it's important that we win these games." LaMarcus Aldridge tied his season high with 29 points for the Blazers (4-5), including a turnaround 10-footer with 37 seconds left in overtime that provided a 119-116 lead. Batum also had four blocked shots, including a sp...

The Royce White Experiment Is Inching Closer To Disaster

The Houston Rockets took a huge gamble selecting Royce White at No. 16 in June’s NBA Draft. White was a beast his one year at Iowa State (13.4 points, 9.3 rebounds, 5 assists) but his draft stock plummeted thanks to a well-documented anxiety disorder. A major crux of his situation: White has a tremendous fear of flying. Unfortunately for White, the NBA travel schedule is arguably...

Trail Blazers 119, Rockets 117, OT

Nicolas Batum had a career-high 35 points, rookie Damian Lillard sparked a late comeback and the Portland Trail Blazers beat the Houston Rockets 119-117 in overtime Friday night. LaMarcus Aldridge had 29 points for Portland, including a tiebreaking free throw and key turnaround jumper in the extra session. Lillard, a first-round pick out of Weber State, scored 16 of the Trail Blazers...

It’s Friday, So Here’s The Ultimate Airball Compilation

Thursday’s edition of S.I.’s Hot Clicks contained a lot of gems (‘sup, Ashley Sky?), but none more enjoyable and reassuring than this compilation video of NBA players airballing shots. The first day of my Houston Rockets fandom was met with Jeremy Lin throwing up a Brandon Stroud-esque airball from three-point range, so it’s nice to see everyone doing it, and not just star...

Bulls-Trail Blazers Preview

The Portland Trail Blazers were going through some shaky times the last time they were preparing to face the Chicago Bulls. New coach Terry Stotts seems to have a solid foundation in place now with rookie Damian Lillard playing alongside LaMarcus Aldridge, Nicolas Batum and Wesley Matthews. Portland goes for its first three-game winning streak since the start of last season on...

My Experience At A Portland Winterhawks Game

I moved to Portland 18 months ago and it has been one of the best decisions of my life.  Since moving here, I have enjoyed discovering the great culture that Portland has to offer.  Last weekend, I went to a Portland Winterhawks game and my experience was so great, I really wanted to write about my time there.  The game was held at Veterans Memorial Coliseum, a great old arena...

Rockets-Trail Blazers Preview

The Portland Trail Blazers aren't getting much bench production and their defense has to get better, but they're hard to beat when they're hitting from 3-point range. The Houston Rockets found that out earlier this month. Portland will try to avoid a fourth consecutive home loss Friday night when the Rockets open a three-game western swing. It's still early, but...

Trail Blazers 102, Bulls 94

Wesley Matthews and Nicolas Batum scored 21 points apiece and the Portland Trail Blazers beat the Chicago Bulls 102-94 on Sunday night for their first-three-game winning streak since opening last season with a trio of victories. LaMarcus Aldridge added 18 points and 13 rebounds as all of Portland's starters were in double figures. After trailing by as many as 15 in the third...

Veterans guide Blazers to tight win over Bulls

PORTLAND, Ore. -- Wesley Matthews, Nicolas Batum and LaMarcus Aldridge are the veterans, the guys who are supposed to do the yeoman work for the Portland Trail Blazers. That's precisely what happened Sunday night as the Trail Blazers held off every Chicago challenge in a 102-94 victory over the Bulls at the Rose Garden. Matthews and Batum each scored 21 points, and Aldridge...
