Tony Battie was a member of the Boston Celtics from 1998-2003. During his last full season in Beantown, Battie averaged 7.3 points and 6.5 rebounds per game. It was undoubtedly his most productive campaign, but his most prominent moment as a Celtic came two years earlier, in a nightclub rather than an arena,

Battie rushed Celtics captain Paul Pierce to the hospital after being stabbed 11 times on September 25, 2000. In my opinion, he is just as deserving of an '08 championship ring as Pierce, Kevin Garnett, or any of the other Celtics. This was a moment that has gotten lost over time, but his heroic actions should be recorded forever (or at least as long as I keep the rights to this domain name...).

Battie was originally drafted by the Nuggets and has had stints with the Cavaliers, Magic, Nets and 76ers. Tony is still in the league today, playing for the Philadelphia. Pierce, the only current Celtic to have played with Battie, will see his savior again tonight as Boston and Philly have a 7:00 p.m. matchup tonight.
