After news leaking out earlier in the day, WEEI afternoon drive host Glenn Ordway confirmed in the opening minutes of his show this afternoon that he will be leaving WEEI after 25 years on the air, and 27 years working for WEEI.  The news came as a surprise, as the station is reportedly trying to appeal to younger fans in order to compete with other sports-talk stations in the area. In recent years, The Big Show with The Big O had trended downward in the books after facing competition from the newest station in the Boston market, finishing outside the Top-3 in the local ratings repeatedly, and as low as fifth last fall.  Entercom – the parent company of WEEI – had cut his salary after falling in the ratings.  Though recently, the show had started to rebound and turn the numbers around, finishing as high as second in the books. Until 2010, Ordway had hosted The Big Show solo for more than a decade, and had always dominated the ratings.  But with the emergence of competitive station The Sports Hub, the show and the network had been scrambling to keep up.
