Guh. The Cavaliers had this one won twice, but poor defense and timely shooting by the Hawks forced the game to overtime, and then cost the Cavs the game. Even still, the Cavaliers had a chance to win in the end, but Kyrie Irving’s jumper missed the mark and Gee wasn’t able to tip the ball in. Irving nearly had his first career triple double, falling a rebound and an assist short (29/9/9). Tristan Thompson had troubles hanging on to the ball in this one, and finished with 13 points after his career high 27 points the other day. After this game, the top 4 scoring performances by rookies this year all belong to Cavaliers. 3 for Kyrie and 1 for Tristan.

In his Final Game at Age 19, Kyrie Irving Drops 29, 9 and 9

In what was his final contest as a teenager, Cavaliers rookie point guard Kyrie Irving may have compiled his most complete game as a professional. Already recording a handful of game-winning shots, including an ice-cold display at the free throw line against the World Champions, Irving fell just shy of a triple-double in Cleveland’s overtime loss to the playoff-bound Atlanta Hawks...

ESPN NBA Redraft: Irving and Thompson go in Top Two

Not a Tristan Thompson fan with the fourth-overall selection? Still one of the shrinking-by-the-day contingent of individuals who think the Cavaliers should have selected Derrick Williams and some other guard — Brandon Knight, Kemba Walker, Jimmer?? — with the fourt selection? Well, ESPN aims to make you feel in more silly than you already should. In a revisionist redraft of...

Cavs Fans and Kyrie Irving Both Can Benefit From Lessons of the Past

“’Tis better to have loved and lost than never to have loved at all.” I don’t know who originally said that quote, but I think in life that’s probably a good rule of thumb. Obviously this quote would seemingly apply to romantic love, but love can come in many different forms. So too, then, can this quote have many far reaching applications in life. I’ve been thinking...

Thompson Sets the Pace, Irving Seals the Win

The kids are indeed alright. On Monday night, just a few hours after we deliberated whether or not he deserved some additional burn at the center spot, Tristan Thompson came out of the gates on all cylinders — dunking and rebounding and even showing near-range touch. The 6-foot-9-inch rookie was converting in transition, grabbing offensive boards and providing the New Jersey Nets...

Irving flirts with triple-double in Cavs loss

ATLANTA (AP) -- Joe Johnson hit a tying 3-pointer at the end of regulation and knocked down a baseline jumper with 10 seconds left in overtime, giving the Atlanta Hawks a 103-102 victory over the Cleveland Cavaliers on Wednesday night. The Hawks rallied from 16 points down early on and a six-point deficit in OT, pulling even on Johnson's third trey of the night and a three-point...

Cavaliers still learning playbook, frustrating coach

The Cleveland Cavaliers are a young team. Kyrie Irving is a rookie and many of the players on the team are still relatively new to the NBA. Young teams struggle and the crunched and rushed schedule has not helped anything. Add the weight of sudden expectation makes things all the worse as the team comes to grips with its position in the standings. It is safe to say no one had the...

Kyrie Irving Crosses Gerald Wallace, Gerald Green, And Deron Williams On Consecutive Possessions

Once again, Kyrie Irving did it in the fourth quarter for the Cleveland Cavaliers.  As the Cavs outlasted the Nets in an eventual 105-100 victory, your ’11/12 Rookie of the Year scored 14 of his 26 in the final stanza, including his team’s last six, the shot that made it a two-possession game, etc.  Neither of Kyrie’s fourth-quarter plays that impressed me most resulted...

Tristan Thompson is now averaging 17 & 9 as a starter, and Donald Sloan can play

Tristan Thompson received a Cavs Zine Two last Tuesday, he most likely finished reading it this week, and then went for 27 points and 12 rebounds last night in New Jersey. There are no coincidences there, obviously. Nor is there any coincidence to the way that Tristan played just after being called out by Coach Byron Scott following the loss to the Hawks on Sunday either. Zaza Pachulia...

Cavs waive center Ryan Hollins

The Cavaliers have waived backup center Ryan Hollins, one day after rookie Tristan Thompson had his best game as a pro. Hollins, who came to Cleveland in a 2010 trade with Minnesota, averaged 3.7 points and 2.3 rebounds in 15.1 minutes per game. The 7-footer made seven starts and played in 24 games this season. Hollins' release comes one day after Thompson scored a season-high...
