Brook Lopez was just too much for the depleted and young Cavalier frontcourt. The Brooklyn big man had a game-high 35 points and fouled Tyler Zeller out as the Cavaliers used a late surge to close the gap against the Nets, but Kyrie Irving’s game-tying three-point attempt misfired as time expired, giving the Nets a 103-100 win at the Barclays Center. C.J. Miles led the team with a season-high 33 points which included 8-of-10 three pointers. Tristan Thompson added another double-double with 17 points and 15 rebounds, and Irving scored 13 on just 5-of-16 shooting. For Brooklyn, Joe Johnson and Deron Williams each added 15 points of their own. The Cavaliers just could not keep the Nets off the foul line as they were outnumbered in that department 39-19 in attempts. After three days off, the 7-25 Cavaliers next face the Sacramento Kings at home. Cleveland Starters Pos Min FG 3Pt FT +/- Off Reb Ast TO Stl BS BA PF Pts K. Lopez scores 35 to lead Carlesimo's Nets over Cavs

NEW YORK -- Maybe it's a new coach. Perhaps his oft-injured right foot has fully healed. Whatever the reason, Brook Lopez is playing the best basketball of his career and had his best game of the year Saturday night, leading the Brooklyn Nets to a 103-100 victory over the Cleveland Cavaliers at the Barclays Center. "I think it's more of a mindset," said Lopez...

WFNY Top 10 stories of 2012: #5 Kyrie Irving wins NBA Rookie of the Year

2012 was one crazy year in the wild wacky world of Cleveland Sports. Some would tell you 2012 was as bad as it has ever been here. As the year comes to a close, like we have done the last four years, WFNY will take a look at what we view to be the 10 biggest sports stories affecting our local sports scene. Each day through the rest of the year, we will be counting down from ten to...

Cavs rally, fall short vs. Nets in Brooklyn

NEW YORK (AP) -- Brook Lopez scored a season-high 35 points and grabbed 11 rebounds, and the Brooklyn Nets improved to 2-0 under interim coach P.J. Carlesimo by beating the Cleveland Cavaliers 103-100 on Saturday night. Lopez followed his 26-point, 11-rebound performance in a victory Friday over Charlotte by shooting 13 of 20 from the field, making a number of timely baskets in...

Williams denies getting Avery fired

Nets point guard Deron Williams denies being the reason head coach Avery Johnson was fired by the team. He recently complained about the team's offensive system.

Kyrie Irving hits crazy buzzer beater

Check out Cleveland Cavaliers Kyrie Irving as he drives the floor and throws up a nasty shot to beat the halftime buzzer against the Atlanta Hawks.

Late rally falls short, Cavs lose in Brooklyn, 103-100

This happened a lot. The Cavs nearly stole this one. Well, they nearly forced overtime. Cleveland dug themselves a decent sized hole, forcing themselves to play catch-up for the bulk of the night, but they had a shot. With a player like Kyrie Irving, you always have a shot. It wasn’t Irving’s best game; Kyrie finished with 13 points on just 5-16 shooting and was 1-6 from behind...

Carlesimo gets win in Nets debut

The Brooklyn Nets gave P.J. Carlesimo a victory in his debut and the Charlotte Bobcats a 17th straight loss, getting 26 points and 11 rebounds from Brook Lopez in a 97-81 rout Friday night. A day after firing Avery Johnson, the Nets played as they did last month, when they were 11-4 and Johnson was Eastern Conference coach of the month. They are just 4-10 in December, a slump that...

For Cavs, it ain't easy bein' green

CLEVELAND -- With the game in the balance, Cavaliers rookie guard Dion Waiters dribbled near the top of the key, passed to rookie center Tyler Zeller, who then passed it back. Two rookies. One ball. One outcome to be determined. The results werent likely to be very good. And they werent. Waiters missed an off-balance jumper from the perimeter, a shot that came with enough time...

Good times on All Bets Are Off last night

Had a great time on All Bets Are Off last night on Sports Time Ohio. Gene and Ashley made things very easy for me and I appreciate ABAO extending the invite. My only hope is that I didn't hurt ratings too bad in the process. If you happened to miss the episode don’t worry. My Dad DVR’d it and said it's cool if you want to swing by and check it out at...

Box Score: Hawks 102, Cavaliers 94

We’ve seen this episode before: three and a half great quarters and a stinker in the final few minutes. The Cavaliers went cold, quit running their offensive sets, and were unable to stop Jeff Teague as the Hawks came from nine down in the third quarter to get their revenge against the Cavaliers 102-94 in Quicken Loans Arena. The collapse spoiled a good offensive display from Kyrie...

Cavaliers Soar With The Hawks, Crash Land At The Finish

The Fox Sports Ohio crew used the stat during the Washington game on Wednesday. Byron Scott referenced the stat himself last night in his post game press conference. It’s on the mind of everyone who watches the Cavaliers and follows them more closely than checking the final score alert on one’s smartphone. “In their 24 losses, the Cavaliers have either lead or trailed by no...
