The basketball gods have dealt Brandon Roy a terrible hand.  While you have some guys in the league who don’t truly appreciate the privilege they’ve been blessed with, Roy has had his all-star career interrupted by chronic knee issues. Roy who signed a free agent deal with the Timberwolves in the off-season, was hoping to resume his high level of play. Roy played in the first five games of the season, but hasn’t played since. The writing may be on the wall for Roy, and considering his contract is not guaranteed by Minnesota for next season, Roy may be looking at his playing career coming to an end. Roy doesn’t want to go out in street clothes, and according to Rich Bucher of CSN Bay Area, is hoping to get on the court for one final game, one last time. Brandon Roy is travelling with the Timberwolves and while he doesn’t expect to play Wednesday at the Clippers or Friday in Utah, he told me he’s hoping to play at least one more time this season and he’d like it to be in one of the team’s remaining home games, either April 13 vs. the Suns or April 15 vs. the Jazz. As for next season, apparently his contract with the Timberwolves is written in a way that he’s not completely clear if he still will belong to Minnesota. His agent and the players union, he said, will examine the language of it to determine whether he has the ability to be a free agent. (More to come on this subject.) In any case, he is looking to continue his career. Roy’s $5.3 million contract for next season is not guaranteed.  It’s hard to see a team risking his knees or a roster spot on Roy next season. He would like to continue his career, but I don’t see how.  Basketball gods really blew this one.
