This year sixteen former UNC Basketball players have made National Basketball Association rosters. As you have seen by the daily recaps, many have been getting playing time with the franchise that has them under contract. Unfortunately, for 13th year veteran Brendan Haywood, who is playing for the Charlotte Bobcats, this won’t be the case for a while. The seven footer had a MRI and CT scan yesterday that revealed a stress fracture in his left foot that will need surgery. From a small article, it sounds like the next step for the big man is surgery, which will happen sometimes next week, that will entail placing several screws to help the stress fracture to heal. After that? Three months of immobilization, then a follow up CT scan where the doctor will determine if Haywood is ready to get back to normal activities or if further interventions are needed. This leads to the fact that it will be 2014 before Haywood has even a chance to begin to return to the hardwoods. Being 33 years old right now, and 34 by the time he is done with this whole process, you have to wonder how much of a toll this will be on Haywood. Let me be the first to wish Brendan Haywood well as he goes through this, and that hopefully we will see him back in action this NBA season. Even if he does not use it much, if you wish to leave a “good luck tweet” Haywood does have an account … click here for it.
