As soon as Rajon Rondo was declared to have torn his ACL, every fan was wondering who would take his place in the All-Star game and everyone was jockeying for their own favorite player to get into the game. However there is only one player who deserved the spot, the Brooklyn Nets’ center, Brook Lopez and David Stern made the right call, putting him into the game.
Brook Lopez is the highest scoring big man in the Eastern Conference, has the fourth highest PER in the NBA, has improved his defense and rebounding and has been the best player on the team with the fourth best record in the Eastern Conference. That is quite the resume, for a player who did not make the team in the first place and despite the snub, he is exactly where he should be, in the big game.
Here were the other candidates many deemed worthy and their stats so far this year. Looking at them, it is very easy to see why Brook Lopez was chosen.
Brook Lopez: PPG: 18.6 … RPG: 7.3… BPG: 2.2… FGP: .525… PER: 2...
