Andrew Bynum the “face of the franchise”, well he certainly said all the right things in his official unveiling. The Sixers in acquiring the center have elevated themselves to the top of the Eastern Conference. I have to admit I was very surprised by the trade considering prior to it they resigned Lavoy Allen, Spencer Hawes and signed free agent Kwame Brown. The trade, is a risk despite Bynum saying all the right things. With one year remaining on his contract, Bynum could be gone after this season, though we can say that the Sixers will have the upper hand in signing him next year.

What has me concerned, the Sixers HISTORY. Since the trade of Moses Malone, the Sixers have not had much luck with big men. Names such as Jeff Ruland, Manute Bol, Mike Gminski, Shawn Bradley, Matt Geiger. After these less than stellar names as a fan, I am a bit gun-shy. The history of the Sixers is what it is and no I am not suggesting that because of the bad track record nothing of this caliber should ever be done. What I am suggesting is cautious optimism. The GHOSTS of centers past all came to the Sixers with high expectations and none on the list lived up to those expectations. Injuries and mis-judging “the lists” abilities is a large reason why the Sixers have raised no championship banners since Moses Malone. So with tempered excitement, I look forward to the possibility of Bynum erasing those memories.Similar Posts:
