Mike Woodson appeared on ESPN radio’s “The Stephen A. Smith and Ryan Ruocco Show” and when defending his star player being considered a “quitter” for leaving Monday’s game vs. Cleveland down 22 points, Woodson actually stated that Carmelo Anthony asked to be taken out of the game before tripping over himself and injuring his right knee during the first half of play. Woodson may have actually done more harm than good in his analysis of the situation.
According to Mike Woodson on ESPN Radio:
“Melo was hurt, and for him to ask me to come out of the game before he actually took that spill, made me realize that something wasn’t right. He’s never ever, ever, even hinted about coming out of the game…I should have [taken him out], but stubborn coach, I just didn’t…I’m thinking the game, I’m thinking, hey, he’ll play through it, he’ll figure it out, but he was hurt.”
