Carmelo Anthony, now in his third season with the New York Knicks, is finally making the trip back to Denver to face the team who drafted him. Melo was dealt to the Knicks in 2011 for Danilo Gallinari, Wilson Chandler, Raymond Felton and other pieces. Since the trade that shaped both teams for what seems to be the better, Carmelo has still to play a game in Denver against the Nuggets. That all ends on Wednesday, as the Knicks travel to Denver to face-off against the white hot Nuggets. Carmelo Anthony claims that this meeting with his former team, in the city that loved him won’t be emotional. Per Yahoo! Sports: “I don’t think it will be emotional,” Anthony said. “I think it will be crazy sitting on the other bench, sitting on the other side of the court, being in the visitors’ locker room. But as far as being emotional, I don’t think so.” Perhaps Melo has spent enough time in New York, and maybe some of the more emotional feelings that generally come attached to playing your former team in your old building, have had the necessary time to pass. We all saw the mockery on display by both the Magic fans and their former superstar center, Dwight Howard, last night in Orlando, as Howard visited his former club for the first time since being dealt to the Lakers over the summer. It was loud, emotional, and embarrassing on both ends, if you ask me. Carmelo is battling a knee injury, but is expected to play despite the pain. He notched 34 points the last time he squared off with Denver, but this time may pose bigger problems, being that he’s back in the city who used to adore him. This reunion may be more emotional for Nuggets’ head coach, George Karl, than it is for Carmelo. When asked about whether or not Anthony’s jersey should be retired in Denver, Karl said. “I would probably say yes,” Karl said. “My gut feeling is, I don’t know if you want to do it at a time when the fans are kind of angry and frustrated, and probably some fans are anti-Melo, but in time I would vote definitely, yes. What he did for this franchise, turning it around. He has to be one of the two or three best players in Nuggets history, in my opinion. I vote yes.” The post Carmelo doesn’t think return to Denver will be emotional appeared first on Pass The Pill.
