What I am about to show you is real. At first, the rumors pointed to the Cavs official site being hacked, but we have verified that is not the case (as has ESPN). Cleveland Cavaliers owner Dan Gilbert has written an open letter to Cavaliers fans in the wake of LeBron James leaving the Cavs in favor of the shores of South Beach during the NBA’s free agency period. LeBron might have signed with the Heat, but the real fire is up in Ohio tonight — both burning jerseys and under Gilbert’s collar. The man goes as far as to put an actual curse on King James, like some kind of crazy ass voodoo witch doctor or something. At first I got a kick out of it, but now I just think this is about the most pathetic things he could do, and it certainly won’t calm down a city that’s damn near ready to riot.
This is like something an irate ex-girlfriend would put on her Facebook blog after she gets dumped. WTF? After reading this and seeing the team, or lack thereof, that was built around him, no wonder LeBron left. This is no way for the owner of a professional sports franchise to act. I grew up in Missouri, the Show-Me State. LeBron left because you couldn’t show him a roster worthy of his talent. If you want to show him he made a mistake, go out and beat him. Don’t write a letter like some reactionary bipolar wackjob. It’s embarrassing and it shows why a big-time player just left your small-time team.
Here is the Gilbert letter itself, which, for now, is still featured on the front page of Cavs.com.
