When Dion Waiters is feeling it, he can really fill it up. That much we already knew, and got to witness again Thursday in the Cavaliers 72-66 win over the Spurs in the NBA Summer League in Las Vegas. It was both teams first game in the new tournament-style format. The Cavs advanced to Saturdays quarterfinals play the winner of Thursdays late game between the Bulls and Heat. Waiters finished with a game-high 27 points on 12-for-23 shooting. The second-year shooting guard also grabbed six rebounds. Free-agent guard Jermaine Taylor added 11 points, undrafted free-agent forward Kenny Kadji scored 10 and second-round pick Carrick Felix had nine points and six boards. Guard Marcus Denmon led the Spurs with 19 points. Denmon was drafted by the Spurs in the second round of the 2012 draft (No. 59 overall). He played in France last season. Meanwhile, the Cavs limited Spurs forward and former Ohio State standout Deshaun Thomas to five points on 1-for-12 shooting. Thomas, drafted 52nd overall, entered the game averaging 17 points. Bynum press conference scheduled Cavs free-agent signee Andrew Bynum and general manager Chris Grant are scheduled to meet with the media Friday at 11 a.m., team officials announced. Bynum, a 7-foot-0 center, missed all of the past season with the 76ers because of knee issues. He was traded to the Sixers (from the Lakers) last summer. He averaged 18.7 points and 11.8 rebounds in 2011-12, when he played for current Cavs coach Mike Brown with the Lakers. Miller clears waivers Former Miami Heat shooting guard Mike Miller cleared waivers without a team making a claim Thursday, making him an unrestricted free agent. Miller, 33, was released by the Heat earlier in the week and had been linked to the Cavs. However, the waiver deadline came and went at 5 p.m. ET without the Cavs putting in a bid.
