Boston’s “home for sports” just got a bit more crowded. Celtics president Rich Gotham announced a new partnership with 98.5 The Sports Hub on Thursday that hands broadcasting rights over to The Sports Hub after the team’s previous radio home, WEEI, was unable to work out a new deal. 98.5, a subsidiary of CBS Radio Boston, will carry all regular-season and postseason games as well as select preseason games. Patriots, Bruins and Revolution games are also broadcast on the station, but 98.5 already has a backup plan for crossover nights when more than one team is in action. CBS Radio Boston will utilize one of its other stations, 100.7 WZLX, as a secondary air wave, though it hasn’t been announced which teams will air on each station during such instances. There is only one instance — Dec. 8 — when the Patriots, Celtics and Bruins all play in the same day during the regular season and, fortunately for 98.5, the Bruins play a 7 p.m. nightcap while the Celtics and Patriots play at noon and 1, respectively. In addition, Gotham announced that the popular play-by-play and color commentary tandem of Sean Grande and Cedric Maxwell will both be returning to the booth. “We are excited to launch a new era of Celtics basketball with CBS Radio Boston, extending our audience reach with Celtics fans throughout New England and providing an enhanced promotional platform for the Celtics, our team sponsors, and advertisers,” Gotham said in a statement. The Celtics open up their regular-season slate on the road in Toronto on Oct. 30. Filed under: Boston Celtics, Headlines, Pat Bradley
