8 a.m. ET: The last time the Celtics and Cavaliers met up, Jeff Green provided a thrilling ending. The Celtics would probably prefer if things were not so exciting this time. Having snapped their two-game losing streak with a victory over the Pistons on Wednesday, the Celtics (39-36) are back in action. Their opponent is the Cavs (22-52), who are having a forgettable season despite giving the Celtics three tough efforts this season. Stuck at the bottom of the Central Division, the Cavs have a shortage of talent, and that has been compounded by severe injuries to Kyrie Irving, Dion Waiters and Anderson Varejao. The Celtics cannot afford to take the Cavs — or any team — lightly, however. The Celtics hold just a 2 1/2-game edge on the Bucks for the seventh spot in the Eastern Conference, and nobody wants to fall to eighth, which would mean taking on the powerhouse Heat in the first round. Kevin Garnett will not be back, but Celtics coach Doc Rivers seemed optimistic at practice on Thur...

Jeff Green has probably literally turned into Iron Man

Jeff Green has been playing the basketball of his life. His emergence is one of the few positive signs that the Celtics nation can hold onto going into the Playoffs. How well has he been playing? Steve Bulpett of Boston Herald has an interesting piece of stats: Green is averaging 21.4 points in his 10 games as a starter, a figure that would make him the Celtics’ overall leader...

Jeff Green gets Celtics their first and only win against the Pistons this season: 98-93

Iron Man did it again! Jeff Green has put up another monstrous performance with 34 points (13-19 FG), 6 rebounds and 4 blocks and the Celtics avoided getting swept by the Pistons in regular season for the first time since 2006-07. Green's numbers are impressive by themselves, but it should also be mentioned that a few of those points and rebounds were really, really crucial....

Doc on Jeff Green starting: “Jeff has earned that”

Jeff Green has been all smiles since March hitDoc Rivers spoke in practice about Green’s starting gig once KG gets back, saying that he has wanted to start the Georgetown product for quite some time, but his play has only recently justified that decision (via ESPN Boston):“I was hoping (to start Green consistently at some point),” Rivers said. “That was my intention. We weren’t...

Iron Man Came to Play Last Night

Three at the Buzzer: Celtics Can't Beat Cavs Without Pierce and KG

Jeff Green scored 23 points and Shavlik Randolph contributed with a carrer-high 16 points, but it wasn't enough as theCavaliers beat the Boston Celtics 97-91.  Jared Weiss from CLNS Radio recaps the game in tonight's Three at the Buzzer.

Celtics 98, Pistons 93

Jeff Green scored 34 points, including a 3-pointer with 45 seconds left to snap Boston's two-minute scoring drought, and the Celtics clinched a playoff berth by beating the Detroit Pistons 98-93 on Wednesday night. Paul Pierce and Brandon Bass scored 17 apiece for the Celtics, who had lost two in a row and seven of their previous nine. But the victory, coupled with Philadelphia...

Cavaliers-Celtics Preview

Jeff Green has made quite a name for himself while helping fill in for the injured Kevin Garnett. He may need to step up even more with Paul Pierce banged up, too. Green looks to build on another terrific effort as the playoff-bound Boston Celtics host the Cleveland Cavaliers, who try to avoid an 11th consecutive loss Friday night. Green, who burst onto the scene with a career...

Celtics Survive Beating Pistons 98-93

The Celtics returned home to take on the Detroit Pistons Wednesday night at the TD Garden. With a win tonight and a 76er loss on the road the Celtics would clinch a playoff spot. The team did just that but they sure don't make things easy on themselves. Led by a huge night from Jeff Green, who finished with 34 points, the Celtics snuck by Detroit 98-93. The Pistons really...

Garden Report: Green and Randolph Can't Save Celtics from Cavaliers

Without Kevin Garnett and Paul Pierce, Jeff Green and Shavlik Randolph tried to shoulder the load and lead the Celtics to victory. To no avail, as they fell to the Cavaliers 97-91. Randolph had a career-high 16 points to…

Comments from the Other Side - Pistons 4/3

It's always sad for me to see fans rooting for a loss in order to tank for a better draft choice.  I've never quite been able to get to the point where I want my team to lose, for any reason.   I can understand other fans not liking Tommy's Celtics homerism, but to wish harm on him is pretty classless.  The guy has 10 rings as both player and coach and has forgotten...

Jeff Green Starting to Embrace Role of Forming Lethal Combination With Paul Pierce

BOSTON — The doubts are raised after every disappointing shooting night. In some cases, they pop up even more suddenly, such as any offensive possession that passes without a replay-worthy dunk. Jeff Green exists in only two versions in the eyes of some observers: the game-dominating freak of nature or the milquetoast waste of four years and $36 million weighing down a Celtics...

Jeff Green, Shavlik Randolph Will Be the X-Factors Emerging Into the Celtics Playoffs

Photo by Brian Babineau/NBAE via Getty Images The Boston Celtics’ forthcoming future ultimately weighs on the remaining games on their schedule, and specifically how the newcomers and veterans on the team can collaborate to flash off the true Celtic green. Whether Kevin Garnett returns to the line up remains to be at question, but what is known is the camaraderie and chemistry...

Random Thoughts on News out of Practice

First off, it was great to hear that the whole team, Rajon Rondo, Sully, and KG included were on the court today as the Celtics honored members of the military.  The photo above shows members of the Air Force presenting a flag that was flown in the Middle East to Doc and the team. Second, Paul Pierce didn't practice today, but it wasn't related to the personal reasons that...

Celtics's Struggles Continue; As The Cavs End Theirs

With a game like this, following a losing skid that has seen the Celtics drop 7 of their past 10 game, it would be easy to blame the injuries to Garnett or any other member of this decimated team but these recent losses are starting to become a cause for concern. The team is limping towards the playoffs and is in danger of losing its position in the seeding. To make matters worse...
