The evening would belong to Paul Pierce. The rest of the Celtics would make sure that Pierce's evening wouldn't be filled with mixed emotions.

After an unimpressive first half that saw Pierce struggle mightily, the Celtics play down to Bobcats and allow Charlotte to feel like they were actually an almost-decent team, the Captain finally completed the task that everyone had been waiting for him to do. Pierce's three-pointer less than two minutes into the second half moved him past Larry Bird for second place on the Celtics' all-time scoring list and, in turn, seemed to get the monkey off of the back of the entire team. The Celtics were able to grow what was a five-point lead into a comfortable double-digit cushion for the rest of the game.

Kevin Garnett had a game-high 22 points on 10-15 shooting, including a monster tomahawk dunk circa 2002. Ray Allen, who you could have confused for a myth like the Loch Ness Monster or Bigfoot from his nonexistence in the first half, finished with 17 points. Rajon Rondo had a double-double with 10 points and 14 assists. Pierce finished with 15 points and flirted with a triple-double on one of the most memorable nights of his career, racking up eight rebounds and nine assists. Brandon Bass scored 13 points off the bench in his return to action.

The Celtics, on a night where their defense looked average for a good chunk of the night, only allowed 84 points to Charlotte. A good chunk of that can probably be attributed to Charlotte's inability to be decent on offense at all this season. Boston out-rebounded the Bobcats by five and only turned the ball over 11 times.

I know I didn't write much about Pierce's accomplishment in this recap. That would have made this the longest recap in the history of recaps. Besides, something like this deserves a post of its own. You'll get that tomorrow.
