According to Ian Thomsen of Sports Illustrated, he believes San Antonio Spurs assistant coach Brett Brown is a strong candidate to land the vacant head coaching position of the Boston Celtics. “He’s going to be one of the finalist, I guarantee it. To me, he’s going to be the next head coach of the Boston Celtics.” – Ian Thomsen You can watch Thomsen’s full statement on why he believes Brown will be the next head coach of the Celtics by clicking on the video and watching at the 3:45 mark according to CelticsBlog.com. Even though Thomsen is convinced Brown will be the next coach, he doesn’t actually have any other proof other than his strong belief and reasons why Brown is the perfect fit for the job. So as much as it could be a strong possibility, don’t buy too much into it just yet. The Celtics and Los Angeles Clippers dominated headlines recently as Doc Rivers was allowed to work for the Clippers as their head coach. Boston is a team in rebuilding mode, and though it’s enticing to see Paul Pierce, Kevin Garnett, and Rajon Rondo on the roster, there’s no guarantee one or all of them will be in Boston when the 2013-2014 season begins. Brown on the other hand is now reportedly receiving his third team that his interest in him as a head coach. The Denver Nuggets, before deciding to hire Brian Shaw, were reportedly interested in Brown and recently the Philadelphia 76ers asked for permission to speak with Brown about their opening for head coach. Late Wednesday evening, the Spurs were reportedly working on a deal to hire Jim Boylen from the Indiana Pacers as an assistant coach to join Gregg Popovich’s staff of Brown and Ime Udoka.
