8 a.m. ET: The Celtics have declared their intentions, if not with their words, then with their actions. They will take it easy with Paul Pierce and Kevin Garnett the rest of the regular season, doing just enough to stay out of the dreaded eighth spot in the Eastern Conference standings but not doing so much as to strain their veteran stars. At least Pierce figures to be active for Wednesday’s game against the Nets (44-32), who have already beaten the Celtics (40-37) twice in three meetings this season. Those victories came with a much less effective Deron Williams, who struggled with ankle pain for most of the season before finally rounding into his old form in the last month. Interim coach P.J. Carlesimo also appears to have found some stability with his rotation now that he has committed to Reggie Evans, a 6-foot-8 bundle of energy. The Celtics’ front line is in for a workout. Join us for updates and analysis from TD Garden for the regular season’s penultimate home game, which ti...

Paul Pierce sounds pissed off

We posted this video last night, but felt that what Pierce said maybe deserved a little extra attention. The Celtics laid a huge egg on national TV last night. For a team that's been boasting about how tight they are and tough to beat, they didn't look like a group that could get past the first round. That didn't sit well with Paul Pierce. "We don't talk...

Pierce on likelihood of chicks in the NBA: “No.”

Thanks to Mavs owner Mark Cuban’s silly comments about drafting Brittney Griner, NBA executives, coaches and players are now being asked whether a woman could play in the NBA. Here’s what Paul Pierce had to say: “I think it will be a little difficult, just because of the physicality of the sport,” said Pierce, who has watched the many highlights of Griner. “The men are...

Doc Rivers has a top secret plan for resting Pierce, KG

How will Doc Rivers handle Paul Pierce and Kevin Garnett the rest of the regular season? Pierce is expected to play in Wednesday’s game against the Brooklyn Nets, though he said he’ll discuss with head coach Doc Rivers the possibility of resting at times over the final five games of the regular season. “I’m going to leave that up to coach,” Pierce said. “Maybe I’ll...

Boston Celtics Announce That Both Pierce And Garnett Will Be Out Vs. Miami Heat

According to Chris Forsberg of ESPNBoston.com, and in a move that should surprise no one, the Boston Celtics have announced that both Paul Pierce and Kevin Garnett will be unavailable for the game tomorrow night down in Miami.  The official word is that both have sore ankles, and although they have made the road trip with the team, neither will dress. This is not unexpected...

The annual “most popular jersey” report by the NBA is out.  Once again, Rajon Rondo and Paul Pierce are the only two Celtics representing the team on the list.  Here’s the top 15, sent out by the NBA PR department. 1. Kevin Garnett, Paul Pierce Need to Stay Healthy for Celtics to Make Deep Playoff Run

Boston Celtics coach Doc Rivers would prefer to have Kevin Garnett and Paul Pierce at full strength, rather than see Boston go into the postseason as complete underdogs. With the health of their stars in question, though, the Celtics have some of the most intriguing NBA odds in the sportsbook. In late January, superstar Rajon Rondo, undoubtedly the Celtics’ most valuable player...

Paul Pierce, Kevin Garnett Must Balance Rest With Rhythm As Celtics Prepare for Playoffs (Podcast)

The Celtics have struggled down the stretch of the regular season, and that’s only making life more difficult for them as the playoffs near. On the one hand, the C’s have an aging roster, and that demands a certain amount of restraint with the postseason in mind. After all, Paul Pierce and Kevin Garnett are not the young men they once were, so Doc Rivers has already begun resting...

Boston Celtics: What if Garnett and Pierce Retired?

What if Kevin Garnett, Paul Pierce and Jason Terry retired after the season? They would have almost 30 million dollars in extra cap space and they could conceivably rebuild in less than a year. The biggest need the Celtics have is at the center position and the available free agents include Minnesota Timberwolves’ big man, Nikola Pekovic, who is a restricted free at the end of...

Kevin Garnett: ‘I can be better, and I will be’

Your Morning Dump…where the Celtics are going big

Every morning, we compile the links of the day and dump them here… highlighting the big storyline. Because there’s nothing quite as satisfying as a good morning dump.   “I think the reason people are going small is for the advantage, just trying to be quicker, trying to increase the pace,” Garnett said. “I think we’re doing the opposite. Obviously we’re still trying...

Your Morning Dump… Where I can’t pretend the Celtics are contenders anymore

Every morning, we compile the links of the day and dump them here… highlighting the big storyline. Because there’s nothing quite as satisfying as a good morning dump. While there’s clearly plenty for the Celtics to work on — and the tiny potential for some jockeying in the Eastern Conference seedings — Boston would likely jump at the chance to push the fictional fast-forward...
