On Tuesday night the Celtics played their second of two road games, this time in Cleveland against the Cavaliers. The Celtics came in off a bad loss to the Detroit Pistons that caused Doc Rivers to make some harsh statements. Following their loss Doc threatened that if this team didn't get it together big changes were ahead. The team looked to bounce back and stop their three game losing streak but once again we're denied losing 95-90 to the Cavs. The Cavaliers have one of the worst records in the NBA at 10-32 and also just lost their standout Center, Anderson Varejao. This was deemed a must win for the team but once again they just couldn't get it together. The Celtics really struggled on the offensive end shooting just 38.1%. This was largely due to our veteran's Paul Pierce and Kevin Garnett who were a combined 8-28 on the night. Rajon Rondo had a great game finishing with 17 points, 13 rebounds, and 8 assists but it simply wasn't enough. (AP Photo/Tony Dejak) Our other starters, Avery Bradley and Brandon Bass, both has quiet nights. Bradley scored just 7 points on 2-4 shooting and looked to help slow down Kyrie Irving. Bass has continued to struggle to contribute shooting just 4-7 for 8 points and grabbed 6 rebounds. The Cavaliers were led by their franchise player, Kyrie Irving who had a tremendous night scoring 40 points on 16-24 shooting. When he was in the game the Cavaliers rarely struggled on the offensive end as Kyrie constantly demanded help defense. Nevertheless, the game remained close the entire time as the teams constantly traded buckets. The Celtics gained the biggest lead of the night in the third quarter getting up by as many as 9. However, the team simply couldn't sustain the lead and headed into the fourth quarter up by just three points. (AP Photo/Tony Dejak) Off the bench, Jared Sullinger once again had a solid night. This was his first time playing in his hometown of Cleveland and showed off for friends and family. Sully ended the night with a double-double of 12 points and 10 rebounds, 5 of which came on the offensive glass.Courtney Lee performed well again which was great to see. He scored 9 points on 3-5 shooting from behind the arc with 3 rebounds and 2 assists. It's good to see Lee finally found his rhythm. Unfortunately for him if we continue to lose games his performances may amount to just benefiting us in trade situations. In the fourth quarter the Celtics couldn't buy a bucket. Time and time again the Celtics ran a play to get the ball in either Pierce or Garnett's hands but came up empty each attempt. The game took it's final turn for the worst as Rajon Rondo attempted to throw the ball off Irving as he fell out of bounds. Instead Irving simply scooped it up and went in for the easy lay-up extending their lead to 3. The Celtics now face three very tough games against the Knicks on Thursday, Hawks Friday, and the Heat on Sunday. If the guys can't get it together this week their losing streak could stretch to 7 games. After a loss like this tonight to the lowly Cavs it's tough to say we'll be ready for the Knicks Thursday. Doc will need to rally the guys and hopefully being back home can spark an energy the team certainly needs. [Discuss on CG Forums!]

Doc Rivers unloads after loss

Doc Rivers was upset after the Celtics lost to the Pistons, and he unloaded on his team. See what the Boston coach said.

Doc Rivers: trades are on the way if team doesn't start to "play hard"

If you thought the trade rumors were bad before, just wait. According to Boston Globe writer Gary Washburn, Doc Rivers ripped into the Celtics Sunday night after their loss to Detroit 103-88. One tactic he unleashed was threatening to shakeup the roster to get players who are “committed to being a good basketball team.” I gotta either find the right combination, the right...

The problem(s) with Boston Celtics trade scenarios

Jay mentioned this in his recap last night, but Doc Rivers made a very significant statement after Boston’s disappointing loss to Detroit. From CSNNE:“I gotta either find the right combination or the right guys, or we’re going to get some guys out of here,” said a visibly upset Rivers after the Celtics lost their third straight game. “That’s the bottom line. This group...

Doc Rivers upset, threatens changes

Everyone is waiting for Boston to make that inevitable run that the team always seems to have within it. The Celtics are a veteran team with championship aspirations and knows exactly how to pace themselves. Something though seems off about the 20-20 Celtics and they seem much more in the thick of the fight near the bottom of the Eastern Conference. In perhaps a motivational...

Rivers hints at possible changes after Celtics' loss

AUBURN HILLS, Mich. -- Doc Rivers can't stand mediocrity. If his Boston Celtics don't shape up soon, he wants some of his players shipped out. Rivers, the Celtics' coach, was mortified by his team's third straight loss, a 103-88 thumping by the Detroit Pistons at The Palace on Sunday. His club never had a lead as it sank to .500 nearing the season's midway point...

Kyrie Irving Goes Off as Celtics Fail to Respond to Coach Doc Rivers’ Challenge

So, who is going to be the first guy out the door? We are joking, of course. The Celtics are not going to ship out anybody as a knee-jerk reaction for a four-game losing streak, even if coach Doc Rivers did threaten moves just a few days ago if his players did not adjust their attitudes quickly. But anyone hoping for a reactionary move by Celtics president of basketball operations...

Celtics Coach Doc Rivers Threatens Moves, But History Shows Midseason Trades Seldom Have Major Impact

By now you have probably heard that Doc Rivers agreed with our assessment of the Celtics’ play on Sunday, when an uninspired effort in Detroit produced a third consecutive loss. The Boston coach went on the attack after the game, threatening major changes if the players do not bring a winning attitude more consistently. “We’re taking the wrong approach,” Rivers told reporters...

Celtics Doc Rivers Submits Video To NBA After Bulls Defeat

According to Comcast SportsNet New England, Celtics coach Doc Rivers will submit a video of the crucial play that the officials ruled a jump ball against the Chicago Bulls on Friday night to the league. The Celtics were up by two points with possession of the ball and twelve seconds left in regulation, when a game-altering call was made. Paul Pierce appeared to draw a foul against...

Boston Celtics Remain Consistent With Inconsistency in Four-Game Span

Photo by AP It seems as though the Boston Celtics are right where they started–square one. This season has been full of incomplete performances by Doc Rivers’ group, but especially when it comes to  Tuesday’s loss against Kyrie Irving and the Cleveland Cavaliers (11-32). Granted Irving did post a 40-point performance, but there should be no excuse for the players to display...

Kevin Garnett is frustrated with his play, says he needs to find more ways to help the team

Throughout the Celtics latest losing streak, there seems to be a lot of reflection going on within the team's locker room. A few days ago it was Doc Rivers questioning how bad the team 'wants it' and threatening to get rid of players if the team doesn't start winning. Last night Paul Pierce questioned the team's mental toughness. Among those currently in a state...

Your Morning Dump… Where Doc puts everyone on notice

Every morning, we compile the links of the day and dump them here… highlighting the big storyline. Because there’s nothing quite as satisfying as a good morning dump. “I think this team wants everything easy. They want the easy way out. They want to win easy. And I told them the only way you’re going to win easy is your going to have to play hard. The harder you play, the...

Danny Ainge backs off Doc's "get some guys out of here" quote

Ainge continues to insist he likes the team as is. After the loss in Detroit on Sunday night Celtics head coach Doc Rivers went on a bit of a tirade, saying that if he couldn't find the right combination to get his team to play hard they were going to have to "get some guys out of here."  Yesterday team president Danny Ainge dialed down Doc's comments a bit, and...
