Found January 30, 2013 on Celtics Green ...a boston celtics blog.:
On Wednesday night the Celtics faced the Kings in what might have be the last time a Sacramento team comes to the TD Garden. The Celtics looked to begin the first chapter of their season without Rajon Rondo who was diagnosed with a torn ACL after pregame warm-ups Sunday. The Kings came to town amidst a potential relocation to Seattle and looked to get their second win over the Celtics, this time on the road. The biggest question coming into tonight's game was whether or not the Celtics can still be a playoff team without their leader in Rondo. The Celtics have a surplus of guards on the roster yet no pure point guards who can quarterback the offensive. Doc made it clear the team would look to play a "point guard free" offense where everyone handles the ball and looks to feed the open man. The Celtics came out on a mission to show fans and naysayers alike they're still going to compete at a high level and did just that winning 99-81 over the Kings. (AP Photo/Elise Amendola) Going forward it looks like Doc will look to start Courtney Lee at the point and Jared Sullinger has recently regained a starting spot. This resulted in a starting line-up of Lee, Bradley, Pierce, Sullinger, and Garnett. Unfortunately Sullinger played just four minutes in the game leaving to get treatment for back spasms. He was originally diagnosed as a probable return just getting stimulant and treatment. This would not be the case as he was ruled out. We can only hope this isn't the first sign of the issues Sully was red flagged for prior to the draft that allowed him to slide to the 21st pick. The Celtics had a great offensive night especially in the second quarter scoring a season high 37 points. The team did a great job distributing the ball as six Celtics players finished in double digit scoring, nearly seven as Courtney Lee finished with 9 points. Paul Pierce led the team with 16 points and also added 10 rebounds, 4 assists to his stat line. Terry, Green, and Bass all chipped in 12 points off the bench. It was great to see each finally find a rhythm, particularly Terry and Bass who have really struggled this year. This may be the start of good things for all three as each looks to score with the ball in their hands as opposed to the catch and shoot style Rondo utilized. Boston Celtics guard Courtney Lee (11) drives to the hoop against Sacramento Kings guard Tyreke Evans (13) as forward Jason Thompson (34) watches during the first half of an NBA basketball game in Boston, Wednesday, Jan. 30, 2013. (AP Photo/Elise Amendola) If the offensive performance wasn't impressive enough the team defense was even better. The Celtics we're able to hold Sacramento to 39.2% shooting on the night. This was a very drastic change from their last match-up in Sacramento as they allowed 118 points. Tyreke Evans led the Kings and had a game high 19 points on 7-15 shooting. DeMarcus Cousins, the highly coveted Center struggled shooting 4-12 on the night for 12 points but still grabbed 6 rebounds, and 4 assists. The first installment of the 2012-2013 season without Rondo was a success. Maybe the loss of Rondo has finally given this team a sense of purpose, an identity they've searched for all year. In years past during "the KG era" we've seen the team become fueled by disbelievers and critics who called the Celtics too old. Going forward without Rondo was certainly not in the plans but hopefully this team can come together and finally play to the potential everyone anticipated. The Celtics face the Orlando Magic next game Friday at home in the TD Garden. The Celtics will look to build a two game win streak and get back to .500 going to 23-23. This is certainly a must win game as they face one of the West's top teams in the Clippers on Sunday. [Discuss on CG Forums!]

Rajon Rondo’s Torn ACL Could Force Celtics to Shuffle Players at Trade Deadline

For much of the 2012-13 season, it appeared as though the Boston Celtics might be able to hang on to their spot among the Eastern Conference’s elite, that no longer seems to be the case. Not on the NBA moneyline, at least, where their odds of winning the NBA championship have dipped to 30-1. This, we’ll remind you, is a team whose been a mainstay within the NBA futures’ top...

Realization Time for the Boston Celtics

My exact face when I found out Rajon Rondo was out for the season. It is time my friends, time to say good-bye to this current Celtics group, and start to realize that the quest for 18 this season is over. Possibly, even out for a while. After Rajon Rondo tore his Anterior Cruciate Ligament, I realized, we just aren't that good, and heck, we should have realized that after...

RedsArmy presents: Fan Friday #39: “Family Affair”

I had the pleasure of meeting Ica, this week’s featured fan, and her family at last Sunday’s Celtics-Heat game. It was Ica’s first ever time to TD Garden and what a game she got to watch! It was somewhat bittersweet for her, as Rajon Rondo, her favorite Celtic, missed the game due to a season-ending ACL injury. But Ica did not let that dampen her spirits-she still enjoyed cheering...

JR Smith unhappy with second snub

When Rajon Rondo went down for the season, the Knicks guard thought he had a real shot to be named as his All-Star replacement, but alas, it just was not meant to be.

The Loss of A Star: The Aftermath of the Rondo Injury

A torn ACL is a death sentence to any athlete. When a star in the league suffers that gruesome injury, all you can do is feel for them. It is a helpless feeling being that player, especially when they believe it is only a minor injury. That was the case for Celtics point guard Rajon Rondo, after he thought he had only hyperextended his knee during Boston’s double overtime loss...

Mets' Lopez replaces Rondo on All-Star team

Brooklyn Nets center Brook Lopez will replace injured Boston Celtics guard Rajon Rondo on the Eastern Conference roster for the All-Star Game, the league announced Wednesday. This will be Lopez's first All-Star Game, and he will be the only representative from the Nets, who are 27-18. Rondo was named an All-Star starter based on the fans' vote, but he is out for the rest...

Celtics-Magic Live: Jeff Green, Celts Try to Keep Rolling Without Rajon Rondo

8 a.m. ET: So far, so good for the Celtics without their All-Star point guard. They are 2-0 since Rajon Rondo went down for the season with a torn ACL in his right knee, although just 1-0 since they actually learned of the injury. (Aside from Doc Rivers and a few people on the medical staff, nobody knew of Rondo’s diagnosis until after Sunday’s win over the Heat.) The Celtics...

Next man up: Boston Celtics breeze by Orlando Magic 97-84

With tonight’s victory over the Orlando Magic the Celtics have won three in a row and clawed their way back to .500. Forgive me if I’m not all sunshine and duck boats, but I don’t think wins over the Sacramento Kings and the Orlando Magic (without Glen Davis and Aaron Afflalo!) tell us anything about where this team stands after the loss of Rajon Rondo (and now Jared Sullinger...

Courtney Lee, Jared Sullinger to continue starting

In the wake of  Rajon Rondo's season ending injury, Celtics coach Doc Rivers has to make a decision as to who he should start at guard alongside Avery Bradley.  Against Miami on Sunday Rivers chose Courtney Lee instead of Jason Terry or Leandro Barbosa.  It appears that Doc will keep giving the nod to Lee for the time being: #Celtics coach Doc Rivers: Courtney Lee will continue...

Why we know nothing about the Celtics new starting five, and why that might be a good thing

As we sit here on January 30th, there are very few unknowns on the NBA landscape. After all, the season is three months old, and most teams have played anywhere from 42 to 47 games thus far. Every one of the 30 NBA teams has advanced scouts that know just about every potential line-up that a team could throw on the floor at any time, and how to defend said line-up. In the year 2013...

Kings-Celtics Preview

Boston Celtics star Paul Pierce showed up for his pre-practice meeting with reporters carrying a basketball, which he bounced from time to time while answering questions. Get used to it: Pierce will have the ball in his hands a lot more from now on. Two days after learning that Rajon Rondo has a torn knee ligament that will keep him out the rest of the season, the Celtics returned...

Celtics 97, Magic 84

By Mike Shalin, The Sports Xchange BOSTON -- The short-handed Celtics won their third straight game Friday night, cruising to a 97-84 victory over the woeful Magic. Five days after he and his team learned Rajon Rondo would be lost for the season, rookie Jared Sullinger underwent back surgery and also will be lost for the year.
