It is no secret around the NBA that Danny Ainge is attempting to remake the roster of the Boston Celtics, and that includes ridding them of their longest tenured and greatest players ever, Paul Pierce. The C’s are expected to buy him out of his contract, but before they do so, they want to hear offers from teams that covet the veteran’s services. But the first notable offer isn’t overly impressive. According to News-Hearld in Ohio, the Cleveland Cavaliers have offered two 2nd-round picks to Boston for Pierce. The Cavs would then be responsible to pay Pierce $15.3 million next season, as the contract would become guaranteed. No word out of Boston is they are considering the deal. At first glance, this would be a steal for the Cavaliers and Boston certainly wouldn’t be getting much value in return for Pierce, but it would be something. At this moment, the Celtics buy-out option would cost them $5 million, and they still would need to fill his roster spot. There is also the issue of whether or not Doc Rivers returns (and Kevin Garnett), or if they move Rajon Rondo. There were reports this past weekend that Rivers desire to get [...]
