Found April 03, 2013 on Project Spurs:
AT&T Center – For Jacque Vaughn, tonight marks his first time visiting the AT&T Center from the visitors’ locker room as a new head coach, as Vaughn’s Orland Magic (19-56) prepare to face the San Antonio Spurs (55-19). In the contest, Tony Parker (sore left ankle), Kawhi Leonard (sore left knee), DeJuan Blair (stomach flu), and Manu Ginobili (strained right hamstring) will not play. While the Magic will sit guard Jameer Nelson (sprained right ankle) as well. After the Spurs face the Magic, they’ll have to board a plane and head to Oklahoma City to face the Thunder on Thursday, another back-to-back game, which could have the number one seed in the Western Conference at stake. In his pregame press conference, Popovich said in Thursday’s game the entire lineup could play against the Thunder, minus Ginobili. He also added that if Blair is still ailing, he wouldn’t play either.  “No one would turn it down if given,” said Popovich of winning the number one seed. He did however say that winning the best seed doesn’t earn you the championship. To paraphrase Coach Pop: At the end of the day, the best team is going to win the championship regardless of where they finish in the standings. For those of you who have been savoring a competitive Spurs-Thunder rematch, you might get to see one Thursday minus Ginobili.

Spurs hope Ginobili makes Rapid Recovery

There are fears that the hamstring injury, Manu Ginobili, has suffered could force him to miss part of the San Antonio Spurs’ playoff campaign. The 35-year-old Argentinian strained his right hamstring in a seemingly innocuous incident during the Spurs’ recent game against the Los Angeles Clippers and early estimates suggest he could be set for a four-week lay-off. The Spurs currently...

Manu Ginobili Out Three to Four Weeks With Strained Hamstring, Could Miss Start of Playoffs

SAN ANTONIO — Spurs guard Manu Ginobili could miss the start of the playoffs because of a strained hamstring that is expected to sideline him three to four weeks. The timetable released by the Spurs on Monday comes a day after Ginobili did not play in an 88-86 loss to the Miami Heat. The 35-year-old Ginobili injured his right hamstring in a victory over the Los Angeles Clippers...

Ginobili injury could cripple Spurs' title chance

Here we go again. For the San Antonio Spurs, losing a significant piece for a significant time to the title-contending puzzle is commonplace. These Spurs are used to playing without Timmy or Tony or Manu and winning in their absence. In the regular season, mind you. San Antonio has already played a good stretch of this season without Manu Ginobili and Tony Parker. Tim Duncan,...

Manu talks about getting older, Spanish centers

Manu Ginobili is dealing with a hamstring injury that could keep him sidelined until the end of the regular season and possibly into the playoffs. The Spurs’ second unit will be missing a key component and as a result, the team will suffer as a whole. The 35-year-old veteran had been struggling lately, but he’s still a huge part of the Spurs. He’s a fan favorite and an...

Is Spurs’ Manu Ginobili Really Considering Retirement At Season’s End?

The first report from the 1250am ESPNSA Radio show ‘The Blitz’ was that Manu Ginobili would be out 3-4 weeks and would miss the rest of the regular season. Later in the show, the two deejays, Jason Minnix and former All-Pro Dallas Cowboys linebacker Dat Nguyen, chimed in with more ‘breaking’ news, saying a source was indicating that Manu would be retiring at the end of the...

Yet Another Awkward Gregg Popovich-Chris Sager Interview

Tonight we were blessed with another classic Gregg Popovich-Chris Sager in-game interview, where no answer exceeds five words. Popovich was asked who has to step up in the absence of Manu Ginobili in the Spurs second unit, in which the king of awkward interviews replied, “Manu’s not here.” If the Spurs/Thunder matchup doesn’t intrigue you, this shouldn’t disappoint.

Gregg Popovich says Jacque Vaughn has 'done a great job'

At the end of Wednesday's loss to the Spurs, Jacque Vaughn did something a bit different. Usually he points an acknowledgement to the opposing coach at the end of games before heading off to his locker room. For his mentor, Gregg Popovich, Vaughn went down to the other end of the court and visited the Spurs' head man and gave him a hug. There are a lot of San Antonio...

Previewing Magic-Spurs with Project Spurs

The Magic are unabashedly following the Spurs and Thunder model for rebuilding their organization. Several members of the Magic organization came directly from the Spurs and their family tree, including head coach Jacque Vaughn. So there will now, at least with this management in place, be a tie between the Magic and the perennially successful Spurs. As things stand today, Orlando...

5 things to watch: Spurs vs. Magic

The San Antonio Spurs (55-19) will look to bounce back fro a road loss in Memphis as they return to San Antonio to host the lowly Orlando Magic (19-56).  This will be the final meeting between the two teams this season with the Spurs beating the Magic in Orlando 110-89. Manu Ginobili led the Spurs with 20 points and 5 assists in the first meeting with Orlando. The Spurs will...

Gary Neal sparks Spurs bench

Afforded some extra minutes in the absence of guards Tony Parker and Manu Ginobili, San Antonio Spurs guard Gary Neal reminded us why his ability to generate and hit shots in flurries can be such a valuable asset in the Spurs 98-84 victory over the Orlando Magic. Struggling through an assortment of injuries all season, Neal more closely resembled himself against the Magic by...

Time to unleash De Colo

The San Antonio Spurs were exposed a little bit on the wing without Manu Ginobili and Kawhi Leonard the other night against the Memphis Grizzlies, particularly at the end of the game.  For three quarters of the game, the Spurs did a good job of getting in to the paint, averaging seven shots in the lane.  However, when the fourth quarter rolled around, the Grizzlies put the...
