Mike Conley had 20 points and six assists and the Memphis Grizzlies snapped a two-game losing streak with a 92-77 victory over the Minnesota Timberwolves on Monday night. Conley was 8 of 14 from the field and connected on 3 of 6 from beyond the arc to help Memphis its 10th straight win in the series. Marc Gasol finished with 16 points and Jerryd Bayless added 15. Zach Randolph had 14 points and 10 rebounds, while Tayshaun Prince scored 12 points and grabbed a season-high 14 rebounds. Alexey Shved led the Timberwolves with 12 points, and Mickael Gelabale and J.J. Barea finished with 11 apiece. The Timberwolves' reserves scored 44 points as no Minnesota starter finished in double figures. Minnesota shot 34 percent and was outscored 50-28 in the paint. Timberwolves guard Ricky Rubio left the game after coming down awkwardly on a fast break with about 3 minutes left in the third quarter. He went to the locker room briefly with a minor groin strain. He was available, but did not return to the game. He finished with two points and two assists. Memphis, as it has for about the last 10 games, pulled away with a quick start in the third quarter. The Grizzlies opened the period with nine straight points to start a 13-2 run that gave them their largest lead to that point at 58-41. Minnesota managed to convert only one of its first nine attempts, while Memphis connected on six straight. The Grizzlies' lead continued to swell, reaching 20 near the midway point of the period. The Grizzlies outscored Minnesota 29-14 in the period, upping their lead to as many as 25 points. Memphis hit 13 of 19 shots, while the Timberwolves were 4 of 21. The Timberwolves would not have a player reach double figures until Shved's 3-point play with 10:03 to play in the game. That cut the Grizzlies' lead to 79-63, but the Timberwolves would never threaten the rest of the way. The Grizzlies led 45-39 at the break behind 11 points from Gasol. Derrick Williams and Nikola Pekovic had eight points each for the Timberwolves. Neither team shot particularly well, Memphis doing best with 44 percent, but the Grizzlies converted only one of six shots from outside the arc. Minnesota was 4 of 13 from outside in the half. NOTES: Minnesota, which defeated New Orleans on Sunday night, has not won consecutive games since a four-game winning streak in December. . Memphis avoided a three-game losing streak with the victory. The Grizzlies and Miami are the only teams that have not had a three-game skid. ... Memphis F Darrell Arthur missed his eighth game with neck and back soreness. . Conley recorded a steal in the first quarter and now has 57 straight games with a steal. His two steals in the game gave him 146 for the season, a franchise record.

WHO THROWS A SHOE?

Marc Gasol uses shoe to play defense

Marc Gasol got creative early in the fourth quarter against the Jazz on Saturday night after losing his sneaker on an offensive possession.  Trailing 65-71, Gasol got his shoe back from teammate Ed Davis, and used it to swipe at and foul Jazz forward, Derrick Favors, on a drive to the basket.

Marc Gasol Hits Game-Winning Tip-In; Has A Grizzly Reaction (GIF)

The Oklahoma City Thunder – on the second leg of a back-to-back – were defeated Wednesday night by the Memphis Grizzlies in overtime thanks to a tip-in by Marc Gasol.  One of my favorite moments was Gasol’s reaction to the game-winner and his grizzly growl.  H/T HPBasketballThe post Marc Gasol Hits Game-Winning Tip-In; Has A Grizzly Reaction (GIF) appeared first on The NBA Mistress.

Who Uses A Shoe To Steal a Basketball? Marc Gasol Does

File this one in the class of very unusual and very cool. Check out how Marc Gasol lost a show during a game featuring his Grizzlies 90-84 loss to the Utah Jazz, and then used it to his advantage. Marc grabbed his shoe, which he was none too pleased about losing, and used it to try and smack the ball away from Derrick Favors. Awesome and terrible at the same time. [Ball Don...

Holy Cow! Marc Gasol's shoe fell off

Marc Gasol lost his shoe. Ed Davis, apparently circling in a lifeboat, grabbed it and got it back to the now on defense MG. So Gasol did what anyone who was hurt emotionally at work would do: He used... Full story at Bob's Blitz ~ http://www.bobsblitz.com

Marc Gasol hits Derrick Favors with his sneaker

Grizzlies center Marc Gasol lost his sneaker during last night’s game against Utah. How are you supposed to play defense while holding a sneaker? Use it to swipe at the ball is the correct answer. (h/t Slam Online via CBS Sports)

Marc Gasol uses Shoe to play Defense (Video)

When NBA players lose their shoe in the midst of a game, typically the player will just play through until a timeout when he can retrieve his lost show. But yesterday Marc Gasol of the Memphis Grizzlies decided to break the mold during a game against the Utah Jazz. After losing his shoe on the offensive end, Gasol received his shoe from teammate Ed Davis while playing defense...

Marc Gasol Fouls Derrick Favors With Shoe After Losing It on Previous Shot (Video)

Marc Gasol found a creative way to foul Derrick Favors on Saturday night. The Grizzlies center lost his shoe after hitting a 6-footer when Favors stepped on his heel on the way down. Gasol’s teammate, Ed Davis, returned the shoe to the big man on the other end of the court as Gasol was jawing to refs complaining about the previous play. When Favors got the ball and drove to the...

Marc Gasol’s Tip-In Gives Grizzlies Win Over Thunder

What a night in the NBA. There was the wild string of events in Cleveland, the tip-in game winner by Anthony Davis, and now another game-winner in the same fashion by Marc Gasol.  Trailing by 1 point, Gasol tapped in a Zach Randolph miss with 0.8 seconds to go in OT (which was forced by a Jerryd Bayless three-pointer), to give the Grizzlies the win over the Thunder in OT:

Marc Gasol uses shoe to play defense on Derrick Favors (Video)

Marc Gasol became resourceful Saturday and used his shoe to try stopping Derrick Favors on defense. Gasol made a hook shot to make it 71-67 Utah in the fourth quarter, but Favors stepped on Gasol’s foot, causing his opponent’s shoe to come off. Luckily for Gasol, his Grizzlies teammate Ed Davis picked up the shoe and gave it to him. Gasol didn’t have a chance to put the shoe...

Marc Gasol Used Shoe To Play Defense

Memphis Grizzles center Marc Gasol may not be as annoying as his older brother Pau Gasol but he is still very irritating.  Nothing proved that more than on Saturday night’s 90-84 loss to the Utah Jazz when Gasol used his shoe to try and knock away the ball from Derrick Favors. One play earlier, Favors failed in his defense of a Gasol 5-foot turn around jumper but instead landed...

Marc Gasol makes winning tip-in

The Memphis Grizzles and the Oklahoma City were in a tightly contested match that went into overtime Wednesday night, and would come down to the last possession with 13.6 seconds remaining on the shot clock.  It would be Marc Gasol who would be Memphis’ hero who tipped in the ball off of a Zach Randolph [...]The post Marc Gasol Defeats OKC Thunder With Game-Winning Tip-In (Video...
