As the Dallas Mavericks get ready for their first preseason game of 2013, they’ll have to do so without one of their big offseason acquisitions. After signing on for four years in the summer, long-time Toronto Raptor Jose Calderon is dealing with some hamstring pain and will sit out of the Mavericks preseason game with the new-look New Orleans Pelicans on Oct. 7. Calderon first suffered the injury in practice on Oct. 2 and has been limited since. The Mavericks want to remain cautious with their new point guard and may sit him out for majority of the preseason. ‘”We’ll need him on the 30th — that’s when we need him.,” Carlisle said. “But we’ve got to get him involved, but not at any kind of risk level that doesn’t make sense.”‘ (Full-Court Press, Star Telegram).
