Dallas Mavericks Out of the Playoffs for First Time This Millennium:
The only bad thing about a good run is that eventually it has to come to an end—like it did for the Dallas Mavericks Wednesday night.
It was not the plan to bring in a bunch of talented players on short term deals in hopes of creating a playoff team. The team did not want to play the first 27 games without Dirk Nowitzki.
Regardless of how ‘the plan’ goes you still have to play and the Mavericks did just that this season. In spite of their struggles and injury issues the team still looked good at times. With five games still to go prior to Wednesday night’s tilt with the lowly Phoenix Suns the team still had an outside chance at making it the playoffs for the 13th consecutive season.
A poor first half and a lackluster effort overall resulted in the Suns snapping their longest losing streak in years with a 102-91 win in Dallas, a place they had lost the last 10 times they visited.
