Danny Ainge cleared up one aspect of a Celtics offseason that features many moving parts, confirming to reporters on Thursday that coach Doc Rivers will be back for the 2013-14 season. The future of another key member of the team is still up in the air. Ainge told The Boston Globe that he has not spoken with Kevin Garnett, admitting that he does not have the necessary information to answer the questions the 36-year-old is sure to ask. “I don’t think I have the answers that Kevin will want,” Ainge said. “So I gotta figure there’s a lot to do [before we talk] and I think there’s a lot of questions in Kevin’s mind, as there is every year, to determine whether he’s coming back. I’m not ready to answer everything that he will want to know.” One of those questions — whether Rivers will return — was cleared up Thursday. Among the other key questions Garnett might have pertain to Paul Pierce, who has a $5 million buyout in his contract, as well as what other players Ainge will try to bring in.

Ainge Making Decisions With One Hand Tied Behind His Back

or "We don't know where we're going, but we're making good time." I am amazed not to have seen any discussion of the terrible handicap under which Danny Ainge is working.  Ainge finds himself facing an off-season that proffers wildly disparate outcomes ranging from adding one rookie to the fourteen players now under contract, to turning over the majority...

Ainge says Kevin Garnett doesn't need surgery on his ankle

If Kevin Garnett plays next season, it looks like he will be doing it bone spurs and all. According to the Boston Herald, Danny Ainge says Garnett will simply "rest" his left foot and ankle and will not undergo surgery. I think there was some question whether he was going to have surgery on his foot,” said Ainge. “but the last I heard, which was a few days ago, is...

Doc’s coming back

Danny Ainge confirms that Doc Rivers is returning next season as #celtics coach. “We’ve got a coach everybody would love to have.” — gary washburn (@GwashNBAGlobe) May 16, 2013 I’m absolutely not surprised by this news.  In fact, there was never any hint of the possibility of Doc NOT coming back until he was asked about it after the Celtics were eliminated. Now… of course...

Danny Ainge's history of drafting defensive studs, and who the Celtics may draft this year

In recent years, the Celtics have had their finger prints all over the All-Defensive team. Of course a lot of that has been courtesy of Kevin Garnett, who has been either first or second team defense in four of his six seasons with Boston. But a lot of the selections have come from guards drafted during Danny Ainge's tenure. Rajon Rondo (a 2006 Ainge draft selection) has been...

Sources: Mike Zarren Turned Down Offer To Become Sixers GM

Mike Zarren turned down an offer to become general manager of the Philadelphia 76ers, two league sources said Thursday. Zarren has served as the Celtics’ assistant general manager and team counsel for the past few years. Danny Ainge hired Zarren as an unpaid intern in 2003. "I don’t know all the details, but I know there was strong interest in Mike from Philly," said...

Your Morning Dump… Where Danny expects Doc back

Every morning, we compile the links of the day and dump them here… highlighting the big storyline. Because there’s nothing quite as satisfying as a good morning dump. Doc Rivers is off on a golf course somewhere, pondering his future with the Celtics and asking for time to think. But that hasn’t stopped the Celtics coach from taking regular part in the team’s plans for...

Stephen A Smith Stirring Things Up Yet Again

We all know that Stephen A  Smith loves the sound of his own voice.   First we had Stephen A predicting a trade of KG, Paul Pierce AND Doc to the Clippers.  Um.  I'm trying to remember the last time a coach was traded.  None come to mind.  Of course he probably meant that the Clippers would trade for KG and the Captain with the assurance that Doc would leave the Celtics...

Adelman, Love tandem could be the next Saunders, Garnett

MINNEAPOLIS -- It's one of the darkest yet brightest junctures in the largely painful Minnesota Timberwolves' existence. Repeated failures have wrought changes at the top of the organization. A success-starved city's cynicism is spiking. Poor luck piles on top of a growing heap of shortcomings. Yet hope endures, primarily in the form of a big-time talent at the forward...

Jared Sullinger's recovery motivated by Simba from 'The Lion King'

CSNNE's Jessica Camerato wrote a piece yesterday about Jared Sullinger's recovery from back surgery.  Sullinger's progress is on schedule, and he is expected to be ready for training camp next season.  He's actively rehabbing now, but it sounds like the past few months were pretty difficult for the rookie, who's 21st birthday came shortly after being operated...

Doc Rivers’ Return as Celtics Coach Does Little to Clear Up Other Questions Surrounding Team

Doc Rivers will be back on the bench for the Celtics next season. That means, at the very least, that Kevin Garnett‘s departure from Boston is not utterly assured. Any Celtics fan looking for a deeper silver lining to this news, however, will be disappointed. Rivers will remain, giving the Celtics a decided tactical advantage on a solid three-quarters of their opponents in the...
