Sources to the Business of Sports Network confirm that Commissioner David Stern will forego pay during the league-imposed lockout of the players. Stern earns approx. $10 million annually, not including bonuses. The story was first reported by ESPN.
Both Commissioner Roger Goodell and Exec. Director DeMaurice Smith voluntarily stopped taking their salary during the NFL lockout. Both had pay reinstated as soon as the lockout ended, and were paid retroactively for the salary they did not claim over the lockout. The NBA source to the Business of Sports Network could not speak as to whether Stern would receive his pay retroactively once the NBA lockout ended.
