Today, David Wells was formerly introduced as the new MLB on TBS on-air analyst via conference call. Wells was joined by Jeff Behnke, Turner Sports executive producer. Turner has been able to parlay the appeal of Charles Barkley's comedic wit through the NBA of TNT, and reviews of the MLB on TBS broadcast team last year made mention of the need for a Barkley-esc element. Wells seems to be who Turner feels might fit that niche, although the idea of Wells hoping he’ll be the next Ernie Harwell is certainly something to choke a bit on before Boomer has ever stepped in front of the camera. Wells will make his season debut in the broadcast booth on Sunday, May 3rd for a 2008 ALCS rematch between the Boston Red Sox @ Tampa Bay Rays at 1:30 p.m. ET.
