There is no denying that injuries have played a large role in the Minnesota Timberwolves' fall-off in the Western Conference standings.  The Timberwolves were once primed to be able to make a run to the postseason.  Now, they will struggle to even get in.  But despite the injuries, it could be defense that is hurting them more than anything.According to John Schuhman of NBA.com, the Timberwolves have seen a severe drop-off in their defensive play.  This has made it difficult for them to overcome the injuries they've faced.  Schuhman points out the team is 4-10 since December 16th.  They have dealt with injuries off an on, but the consistent problem has been defense.Kevin Love underwent surgery yesterday to repair a hand he broke for the second time.  Ricky Rubio has been finding his way back after returning from major knee surgery.  Brandon Roy is fighting to keep his career alive.  And Chase Budinger is out after undergoing knee surgery.Of course, losing key players and starters hurts, but the Timberwolves has struggled all around even when some of the players above were healthy.  Since the middle of December, the team has ranked in the bottom five of defense in the league.  They will have to improve this quickly if they want to turn things around. Ricky Rubio Frustrated With His Limitations

Minnesota Timberwolves' guard Ricky Rubio has been an extremely exciting player to watch when he has his free reign on the court. Unfortunately for NBA fans, he still has time before he gets back to 100%. Rubio expresses his frustration in an article reported by ESPN.“It’s hard because I still have a little pain and it’s something you have to fight through and get through...

Timberwolves look poised to alter lineup

MINNEAPOLIS Maybe Ricky Rubio just really likes wearing white. At least, that was what Terry Porter would have liked you to believe this morning at the Timberwolves' shootaround, when the point guard was wearing a white starter's jersey for the first time all season. Porter was vague when discussing whether Rubio would start tonight against the Clippers "He's...

Niesen: Now's the time for Wolves trade

That was bad. That was exhausted and undisciplined and very possibly a major statement about what's to come. When the Timberwolves left Minneapolis last Tuesday night, it was on the heels of a surprise win over Atlanta. (Never mind that the Hawks have somewhat imploded since.) It was with a 16-15 record in spite of several seasons' worth of injuries compressed into two...

The Time is Now for Derrick Williams

Ed Note: Please welcome guest columnist Michael Pina. Michael volunteered to write an article for us on Derrick Williams, and how he must seize the day with Love out indefinitely. Do enjoy. Is Derrick Williams the next Michael Beasley? Comparisons are beginning to take form. Are they fair? After an incredible freshman campaign at Kansas State University that was favorable...

Timberwolves Rookie Shved has high praise for Spurs' Parker

Prior to San Antonio’s 106-88 fourth quarter victory over the Minnesota Timberwolves on Sunday, I had a chance to speak with Wolves Russian rookie Alexey Shved. Though Shved is a rookie, he’s had his run against NBA caliber players as he went head to head with Manu Ginobili (Argentina), Tiago Splitter (Brazil), and Patty Mills (Australia) when Russia played against each squad...
