Chauncey Billups and Nene each recorded a double-double, as the Denver Nuggets defeated the Portland Trail Blazers Monday night at the Pepsi Center 97-89. Both players led Denver in scoring with 19 points each as the Nuggets took a now lead the Northwest Division 1 game ahead of Portland. Denver was without All-Star forward Carmelo Anthony who was out with a contusion of the right elbow, he will also miss the next two games. Brandon Roy got into early foul trouble in the first quarter, and was not a factor in the game. The contest was the first of back to back games as the two teams will play again in Portland Tuesday night.
