38-year old Derek Fisher has reached an agreement with the Oklahoma City Thunder. Fisher, a 5-time NBA Champion, who first debuted his NBA game in 1996 was a long-time Los Angeles Laker. The Lakers parted ways with Fisher last season at the NBA’s trade deadline, shipping him to the Houston Rockets, where he was bought-out and then signed with the Thunder. Derek Fisher has reached agreement with Oklahoma City on a contract for rest of season, league sources tell Y! Sports. — Adrian Wojnarowski (@WojYahooNBA) February 25, 2013 Fisher was released by the Dallas Mavericks after just nine games. Fisher suffered a knee injury and requested his release to spend time with his family at home in Los Angeles. Fisher last played for OKC during their playoff run last season, averaging 6.3 points and 1.3 assists in 20 playoff games. The Thunder are familiar with the point guard, and it’s easy to see where this deal fits after OKC traded away Eric Maynor to the Portland Trailblazers at this season’s trade deadline. Fisher brings playoff experience, clutch shooting, and most importantly, a veteran locker room presence for a young Thunder squad. OKC is well on pace to see deep playoff action, and perhaps another run at the NBA Finals. Adding an experienced point guard like Derek Fisher seems like a great fit, especially since Fisher is familiar with the players, coaching staff and style of ball run by the defending Western Conference champs.
