The Cleveland Cavaliers announced that they have waived center DeSagana Diop, forward Kenny Kadji, guard Jermaine Taylor and guard Elliot Williams. Kadji played in seven preseason games with averages of 5.0 points and 1.7 rebounds in 9.4 minutes per game. Taylor averaged 5.7 points, 1.3 rebounds and 1.9 assists in seven preseason games. Williams played in six Cavs preseason contests, averaging 2.5 points and 2.2 rebounds in 7.9 minutes per game. Diop averaged just 3.7 minutes  in three preseason games for the Cavs, his second stint since parting ways with the team in 2005. This transaction also serves as a perfect excuse to link to Skip Bayless’ 2001 prognostication that Diop had the potential to be the next Shaquille O’Neal. “A physically mature man-child with the feet, touch and timing of a young Hakeem Olajuwon,” Bayless wrote. “All Diop needs is time.” The Cavaliers roster now stands at 15. The team will host the Brooklyn Nets on October 30 to start the 2013-14 regular season. [Related: Earl Clark still learning in his new role as Cavs’ small forward]
