NBA executive vice president of basketball operations Stu Jackson announced yesterday that the league was in fact fining Boston Celtics head coach Doc Rivers $25,000 for public criticism of officiating after Tuesday night's loss in game 2 to the New York Knicks.   During a conference call on Wednesday, Rivers made comments eluding to the fact that he might hear from the league: I didn't think I said much and that could be a problem. Because all I basically said was, Kevin getting into foul trouble had a huge impact on the game. That's not criticizing officials. So I've just got to make sure I focus on our stuff." The Celtics return home tonight for game 3 of their first round series against the New York Knicks. The Knicks lead the best-of-seven series two games to none.

Doc Rivers may go deeper into his bench at TD Garden - Knicks vs Celtics, Game 3

In games 1 and 2 of the NBA 1st Round Playoffs, Doc Rivers has been hesitant to play deep into his bench. Playing a confusing 8-man rotation that, in game 1, didn't include any big men, Doc has said he expects a lift from his role players now that the Celtics have returned to Boston. We can expect that Doc may dig deeper into his bench. In a report issued by Jay King/Mass Live...

Doc whacked for $25,000 for blasting refs

When Doc Rivers said this after Game 2: “Listen, I thought the fouls on Kevin, first of all they were horrendous,” Rivers said after the Celtics fell in to a 2-0 hole in the best-of-seven series that shifts to Boston for Game 3 Friday. “And secondly, I thought they had a huge effect on us,” Rivers continued. “Kevin had three fouls that . . . I was . . . I mean, him not...

Doc Rivers fined $25,000 for telling it like it is

Before the playoff series between the Boston Celtics and New York Knicks started, Doc Rivers referred to New York's start forward Carmelo Anthony as a foul magnet. So, maybe that gave you an indication he was expecting some bad calls the next couple of weeks. The comment he made that got him in trouble, was actually about Kevin Garnett. In the first two games of the series...

Doc Rivers Searching for Solution for Second Half Letdowns as Celtics Return to Boston

Things may feel a little different when the Celtics take the court at TD Garden on Friday. That game, the third installment of their best-of-seven Eastern Conference playoff series against the Knicks, will be the Celtics’ first contest in Boston since a tragic week that had a profound affect on the city, as well as a much less significant impact on the Celtics’ schedule. Because...

Is Doc Rivers Being Out-Coached?

Coming into the latest Celtics-Knicks series, the internets were ablaze with jokes about Mike Woodson's annual playoff exits for The Hawks and Knicks. However, thanks to some crucial mid-game adjustments, The Knicks now have a commanding 2-0 lead in the series. Boston's performance in the first two games has only exacerbated their disappointing year, which began with a slow...

Celtics Will Look for Spark From Garden Crowd As They Hope to Salvage Series (Video)

Celtics coach Doc Rivers told reporters Thursday that there is no better crowd in the NBA then the one at TD Garden. His team will finally be able to play in front of that crowd Friday night, when they return home for the first time in more than two weeks to take on the Knicks in the third game of their Eastern Conference first-round series. Boston struggled through the first two...

Hip pointer won’t keep KG out of Game 3

Doc Rivers says Kevin Garnett suffered a hip pointer in Game 2 against the Knicks. See the video evidence above. The injury will not prevent KG from practicing or playing in Game 3. Shocking. As for why Jordan Crawford is playing significant minutes over Courtney Lee, Doc said: “I think offensively he gives you a better shot at it.” On the team’s effort: At the end of the day...

Is Doc Rivers making the right choices with his guards off the bench?

In Tuesday's Game 2 loss, Courtney Lee was on the floor for just 4 minutes.  Fellow reserve guards Jason Terry (34 min) and Jordan Crawford (25) were the only Celtics bench players to get any significant court time.  The Metro West Daily News' Scott Souza sent this tweet today from Celtics practice: #Celtics coach Doc Rivers: Courtney Lee is not playing right now. Jordan...

Rivers: Garnett to play in Game 3

Kevin Garnett walked over to the Boston bench, nursing a sore hip and Celtics coach Doc Rivers asked repeatedly if his big man needed a break. It was going to take more than that to knock Garnett out of the playoffs. ''He's good. He's good to go,'' Rivers said Wednesday during a conference call with reporters. ''He'll practice tomorrow, and he...

Knicks-Celtics Preview

The Celtics are back home for the first time since the Boston Marathon bombings, and they're hoping the friendly crowd can help turn around their first-round series against the New York Knicks. The Celtics are down 0-2 in the best-of-seven series. Game 3 is Friday night. Coach Doc Rivers says the Boston crowd has always been a big help. Now the team really needs it. A Celtics...

Indiana Pacers Were A Better Match-Up for the Cs

Watching these terrible NBA playoffs, I noticed a few things so far. NOBODY is watching the Pacers-Hawks series. People have no interest in these two teams, heck everybody picked the Pacers in 5 and they suspect the Pacers to lose in the second round. At the end of the season, Doc Rivers rested our players instead of pursuing a higher seed. We only were 2 losses back of the Atlanta...

Celtics honor police, 1st responders

The TD Garden was swarming with police Friday night for the playoff game between the Boston Celtics against the New York Knicks. Both outside the building and on the floor. The Celtics honored the first-responders from last week's Boston Marathon attack during the game, their first at home since the April 15 bombing at the race's finish line. ''They've been...

Kevin Garnett suffering from 'hip injury,' will play Friday night

Kevin Garnett has struggled through the first two games of the 1st round with the New York Knicks. According to Doc Rivers, Garnett is suffering thru a 'hip injury' but is expected to play in game 3. From Mike Petraglia of WEEI.com: "He got hit in the, it's not a hip flexor, a hip pointer," said Rivers. "It's very similar to having a hip flexor in...

Comments from the Other Side - Knicks Game 2 4/23

Unlike a lot of people, after last night's loss, I'm not ready to bury the Celtics just yet.  They are down 0-2 but they are going home, where they play much better.   If they can win their home games, it's tied 2-2 and then they just need to steal one game out of the 2 left in NY.  I agree with Doc that the fouls on KG were horrendous and even the Knicks fans recognized...
