The Celtics are many years removed from the days of bake sales and birthday celebrations, but that doesn’t mean they can’t mark milestones with confectionery treats. Doc Rivers decided to bust out the baked goodies this week as he marked his 400th career regular-season win. He had Georgetown Cupcakes send a box of deluxe cupcakes with Celtics-themed decorating to each member of the team, with the boxes showing up in each player’s locker before Thursday night’s game against the Lakers. The pink boxes, which came with a thank you written on a green notecard, were enough of a boost that the C’s went out and trampled the Lakers 116-95. Boston has now won six in a row – and every game since point guard Rajon Rondo went down with a season-ending ACL injury. While the surplus of sugar may not have been the cause of the latest win, Rivers’ gesture — to thank each player for being part of his 400th win — did leave an impression. “It’s really cool that somebody would do that,” guard Avery Bradle

What awaits Rondo when he recovers from surgery depends on these 3 things

BOS G Rajon Rondo’s surgery is expected to be on Feb 12 or 13 and will be a procedure using either his ligaments or a cadaver, source told Y! — Marc J. Spears (@SpearsNBAYahoo) February 8, 2013 After a brief burst of “maybe Rondo will return quicker than we think” stuff last night, it’s now obvious his season is over. Spears added that Rondo has “spoken to three doctors...

Old man Paul Pierce is doing what Rajon Rondo did for Boston Celtics

When Celtics All Star Rajon Rondo was lost to a season ending injury he was dominating the NBA in triple doubles, even posting one in each of his final two games.  In Boston’s first contest without Rondo, Paul Pierce managed a trible double of his own.  During the C’s 5 game winning streak Pierce has continually put up some very Rondo-esque numbers.  His scoring is down...

Your Morning Dump..Where KG is going to retire a Celtic

Every morning, we compile the links of the day and dump them here… highlighting the big storyline. Because there’s nothing quite as satisfying as a good morning dump. Quite an exhilarating evening at TD Garden last night. I got to watch the Celtics rout the Lakers, see some of the best Celtics basketball of the season and watch Kevin Maurice Garnett score his 25,000th career...

It’s a compilation of all the best pics & GIFs from last night’s fantastic win by the Celts over L.A. Kevin Garnett Reaches 25,000-Point Plateau, an Amazing Achievement for Player Seldom Appreciated as Elite Scorer

BOSTON — Kevin Garnett has about as much use for individual milestones as he does for size 7 basketball sneakers. Neither really fits his game. Still, there was no denying that Garnett was visibly moved on Thursday, when his turnaround jump shot with eight minutes left in the second quarter gave him 25,000 points for his career. A few minutes later, when the achievement was announced...

Bird’s Rookie Year — Game 54 vs. the 76ers

Celtics (40-13) vs. Philadelphia (39-14) February 6, 1980 Boston Garden In the team’s most impressive win of the season, the Celtics began their post-All Star break schedule by destroying the mighty Philadelphia 76ers, 129-110, in front of a capacity crowd at the Garden.  The win was particularly impressive as the C’s allowed Julius Erving to go off for 36 points yet still...

Gino Time! Celtics 116, Lakers 95 as Celtics win sixth straight

I do not want to highlight one player in tonight’s win, as this was truly one of the Celtics best team efforts of the year.  In direct opposition to what I just said, the only player I do want to highlight is Kevin Garnett, who got his 25,000th point tonight with a fade-away jumper.  His response? Thanking all the people who helped him get there and finished with a “it’s...

What the Hell Happened to...Marcus Webb?

If I were to tell you there was a former Celtic who while playing, one day aspired to raise hogs and chickens in his hometown of Montgomery, Alabama, you may think I was lying.  If I told you that said player was on the injured list at one point while on the Celtics with a broken thumb that came as a result of cracking his knuckles, you would probably also think I was lying (or...

For Better or For Worse?

Let’s be honest. Right now, the Celtics are looking the best they have in a long time. They have won their last six games including an embarrassment of the Los Angeles Lakers. Why is this so significant? Because the Celtics are “Rondo-less”. Some are suggesting that the Celtics should trade Rondo, that they are fine without him. To these people, I say, “No.”. Don’t get...

Recap: C’s ride vintage KG, clutch Barbosa to disjointed, ugly win

Allow me to be the first to reference a “turn back the clock performance” by Kevin Garnett.  KG put up 27 and 10 to carry the Celtics… and he did it in just 32 minutes and 18 shots.  Leandro Barbosa chipped in 14 points, 12 in the 4th quarter, to erase a 10 point Raptors lead to start the 4th, and steal a 99-95 win. How night-and-day was this game?  The Raptors won the 1st...

Garnett And Pierce Quiet Trade Rumors, Lead Celtics To Fifth Straight Post-Rondo

Celtics 99, Raptors 95 Earlier this week Kevin Garnett responded to rumors that the Celtics core players may be traded with a simple, defiant phrase. He told reporters, “I bleed green” and in Boston’s fifth consecutive win at Toronto on Wednesday night, he proved it. Garnett posted a vintage line with 27 points and 10 rebounds in 32 minutes, while shooting an efficient 11-18...

Memorable sports moment of the week – The Boston Celtics retire Larry Bird’s jersey number 33

Roughly six months after retiring due to chronic back ailments, the Celtics promptly retired Larry Bird’s jersey number 33 at a special ceremony at the Boston Garden 20 years ago last Monday on February 4, 1993. The 6-foot-9, 220 pound … Continue reading →

Report: Rajon Rondo May Return Earlier Than Expected

Hold the phone. Photo by Greg M. Cooper/USA Today Sports Images As previously prior to Sunday’s game against LeBron James and the Miami Heat, the elite point guard received word that he tore his ACL and will be out for the rest of the 2012-13 season. Now it’s not as major as it looked and sounded. Rondo has what is a partially tear –instead a full tear– will be back sooner...

Steve Bullpett: Bryant admires C's

After the Celtics' dismantling of the Los Angeles Lakers last night, Kobe Bryant spoke with the media about his rival team in Green. He gave the Celtics a ton a respect and continued praise, wishing his team would buckle down and play a similar way. The C's are now 6-0 without Rajon Rondo (26-23 on the season)  and Byant had this to say about Boston in an excerpt from Bullpett...
