BOSTON — Doc Rivers claims to dislike coaching against his friends, but as he prepared to go up against one of his best friends in Avery Johnson, the Celtics coach seemed to be in a good mood. Rivers addressed a number of topics in his usual pregame media availability, from basketball-related issues like Avery Bradley‘s continuing recovery from double-shoulder surgery and the Celtics’ efforts to make Jason Terry comfortable to meeting U.S. Olympic gold medalist Aly Raisman before the game. “Meeting any of those athletes, it’s pretty cool,” Rivers said. “You really appreciate it when you’re there. Obviously, the gold medals is nice, but even the ones who lose and seeing what they’ve gone through, knowing Ryan Lochte from Florida and all those guys who won gold medals and then lost as well, you can see the emotion.” Rivers also touched on the possibility that Bradley could do some rehabilitation in the D-League, a facetious explanation for why Boston’s NBADL affiliate used to be in Ut...

Video: Doc isn't happy with "soft" Celtics

Doc Rivers comes out swinging ... at his own team. Calls his squad "soft" and says Rondo dust-up wasn't right form of toughness.— Chris Forsberg (@ESPNForsberg) November 29, 2012 Sounds like Doc would have preferred if Rondo didn't get into it with Mr. Kardashian. Doc's right though in that being tough in a fight isn't the same as being tough on the court...

Jason Terry calls Kris Humphries a fake tough guy

CSNNE"Some guys are tough. Some guys pretend to be. He's one of those that pretends to be," said Terry. "I played with him (on the 2009-10 Dallas Mavericks). Maybe that's the role (head coach) Avery (Johnson) wants him to have, but he could leave that to somebody else." Maybe the Celtics and Nets will become a rivalry after all. If Terry played with...

Doc Rivers Says Celtics Are A “Soft” Team

Jason Terry rips Kris Humphries

“Some guys are tough. Some guys pretend to be. He’s one of those that pretends to be,” Terry told reporters. “I played with him (on the 2009-10 Dallas Mavericks). Maybe that’s the role Avery (Johnson) wants him to have, but he could leave that to somebody else.” Terry continued jab at Humphries, calling him “soft.” When told Doc Rivers called his entire team soft...

Doc and Danny clearly hate the Celtics’ “cruise control”

The Celtics have problems.  That’s pretty obvious.  But one thing that has clearly dug under the skin of both Danny Ainge and Doc Rivers is the Celtics  continued propensity to be… lazy.  Check out the quotes yesterday… first from Danny “A frustrating thing that I’ve had with this team over the last two years, not just this year — matter of fact it might be less this...

Kevin Garnett, Jason Terry, Doc Rivers & Avery Johnson comment on Celtics vs. Nets fight

Following the dust-up that occurred Wednesday night in the Celtics vs. Nets game, both head coaches and several players had their own comments to add on the situation. Sorry, no comments from Rondo as he was escorted by security from the arena, Kris Humphries or Gerald Wallace. I’m sure they were thinking about the [...]

Just Another Group of Sissies

[Discuss on CG Forums! "We played like a group of sissies...I think everybody knows what we did wrong. It's not like we have to go out and beat them up. But still, you get inside position on a rebound, you just can't let somebody go over your back and take it away" Sounds like our Celtics right? Something that a present day player or coach would say after last...

Celtics, Nets Could Have Foundation of Serious Rivalry Brewing In Wake of Wednesday’s Scuffle

A Few Random Thoughts on Celtics/Nets Fight

First of all this sets up a pretty heated Christmas Day game right off the bat. It should get some good ratings. You have to wonder if the league wanted to set up a rivalry between these two teams for ratings purposes. Yes, I know I'm getting into tinfoil hat areas here, but I can't help but wonder.  In the first outing between the Celtics and the Nets,  Keith Bogans...
