Dwight Howard is now getting the Lebron James treatment.  Every team that thinks that they have a legit shot at getting Dwight Howard to come play for them, is setting up a big elaborate pitch to convince him to come play for their organization.  The two front runners in the Dwight Howard sweepstakes are the Houston Rockets and Dallas Mavericks.  But if Dwight Howard ever wants to restore his name and be loved again like he once was, he should swallow his pride and return back to Orlando. While people around Orlando may say that they don’t want Howard back, they are lying.  If Howard were to come back and say “I made a mistake.  I should have never left here.”  People would welcome him back with open arms.  It is sort of the same thing that the Cavs are setting up to do with Lebron James when he becomes a free agent at the end of next season.  They know that the city of Cleveland would welcome him back, if he were to make the decision to come back. Lets face it, Dwight Howard is not Kobe Bryant.  He cannot just go out there and take the heat from opposing fans.  You can tell by the way that he carries himself and the way that he is around the media, that he is just a guy that wants to be liked.  The way that he left the Orlando Magic organization should be reason enough to deem him a villain around the NBA.  But then he went to the Lakers and we had to hear about the soap opera between him and Kobe all year, which really hurt his likability as well. Have a pair of players ever gone from truly loved by everyone to hated as fast as both Dwight Howard and Lebron James?  Really?  It just proves that fans value loyalty over everything else.  Both Dwight and Lebron left to pursue championships, which is what sports should be all about.  But in the fans eyes, they left a whole organization, city and team in shambles while they, as individuals, went on to what they viewed as a “greener grass”. So what better way to regain the fans love than showing loyalty?  And while showing loyalty, Dwight can show a bit of humility as well.  This would turn Dwight Howard from what now is viewed as selfish to an unselfish loved athlete. Also it is worth noting, how much better is Dallas than Orlando at this point?  Dallas is dealing with an aging Dirk Nowitzki and their second best player is Vince Carter (who is like 100).  Dallas may be better than Orlando next year but as far as the way the organizations are trending…Dallas is going down and Orlando is going up.  Also Dallas is talking about trading for Rajon Rondo.  Rondo has already basically forced both Doc Rivers and Ray Allen to leave Boston.  If Dwight thought Kobe was bad, get ready till he gets a taste of Rondo. The media is citing that Dwight just wants to be the main guy in the system and that is why he is considering both Dallas and Houston favorites.  First, why wouldn’t Dwight be the main guy in Orlando again?  It’s not like Orlando has a true all-star on their roster.  Second, the Rockets have James Harden.  Watching the Rockets play in the playoffs this year was almost as painful and watching paint dry on a wall.  They would go long periods of time where James Harden would drive the lane with reckless abandon and pray to find someone open or get an open look.  Neither of which scenarios worked out most of the time.  So what makes Dwight think that he and Harden are going to work so much better than he and Kobe?  Harden takes a lot of shots and likes to score a lot.  Does Dwight think that Harden is going to just start deferring to him all the time?  Not to mention, I don’t even think that Harden is the best player on the Houston Rockets right now.  Chandler Parsons was unreal for stretches in the playoffs.  The Rockets are a better team than the Magic and are heading in the right direction as an organization but I just don’t see how a ball hungry Howard and a ball hungry Harden is going to work.   In the end, Dwight Howard will not come back to Orlando.  Literally there is like a 0% chance of it happening.  But he really should put more thought into the idea.
