Laura Lane is a writer for ESPN The Magazine online and she recently wrote a piece that had a few quotes from Vanessa Bryant. Well Ms. Bryant was apparently unaware that those quotes were going to end up online and she let Ms. Lane have it this past Friday night. Via Lane's personal blog....
Last night, I got cussed out by Vanessa Bryant. Seriously. At the Lakers game. In front of her kids. In front of the Lakers locker room. It was awesome. She is mad about an article I wrote where I mentioned her. That means one of two things - she either reads the ESPN blog or she has herself on Google alerts. Both are fantastic.

So as I'm walking out of the Lakers locker room after some post-game interviews with the players, I pass Vanessa, who is sitting outside the locker room as usual with her two girls.

"Laura!" she screams (yes, she apparently knows my name). "Fuck you! You fucking bitch!"

"Excuse me?" I say, completely baffled as I look around me to see if there is someone else named Laura. No, there's not.

Her daughters ? ages 5 and 2 ? are sitting next to her on the bench looking at their mom as she screams.

"Fuck you! How dare you write about me and my daughters and their schedule! You didn't say you were writing an article! Fuck you! You fucking bitch. You have no journalism ethics! Fuck you! You bitch - "

I just stare at her. I've heard many stories about her from reporters, but this was unbelievable. Two of my friends from the LA Times told me how she cussed out one of them last season, because he said hi to her daughter. "Join the club, this means you've arrived," said one reporter when word spread of my run-in with Vanessa. "She's insane," said another. "Everyone knows it."
Wow. That's a pretty intense conversation to have in front of your kids, but I'm not one to tell someone how to raise their family. Lane also goes on to say that she might have been upset about the current (unsubstanited) rumors about her husband and that Vanessa Bryant "took it out on" her.

Oh and in other news, there's talk about Kobe now suing the originators of the story Dirty.com.

  • I could see how she would be stressed out. Yikes, though.
  • I know why this story made me cringe - it was for the daughters. Goodness knows the language they use at daycare/Kindergarten (you know kids that age are little mimicks)! But I have no idea why this story also cracked me up. "Poor Vanessa" is all I really have to say.
  • After reading the original article, I have to comment on the fact that the article was nothing... harmless, inconsequential, less than revealing, and certainly not worthy of a curse-fest. So now I'm like, "What's really going on Vanessa? WTF?"
  • Wow, ESPN is sh!t
  • In My opinion I think we all are missing the big picture.. The reporter wrote about the kids Schedule. The kids day to day Schedule, come on now Yard! Who in there right mind need to read about KBs kids schedule. I mean i would've handdled this situation a little bit diffrent but i think the reporter crosss the line and she should be lucky that she only got the tongue lasshing..
  • Not sure we're missing the big picture, Check. Did you actually read the original story? Here's the line: "Bryant's kids have recently started playing soccer in addition to gymnastics, ballet and hip-hop." CRICKETS... That's it. And that's not reporting about the girl's day-to-day schedules. It's an activity list. And I'm pretty confident in saying, no one really gave a rat's ass about it but her. Seriously.
  • Where's Dr. Phil when you need him?
  • LMAO! Where is he indeed! Anger management, anyone?
  • It was rediculous to write about KB's kids. Not rediculous just dumb. Why do it? No reason. They are not famous... Yet.

By the way Kobe should sue dirty.com, even though I bet that is just a rumor as well. Dirty.com is the last thing on his mind right now. I think the thing on his mind is going up 3-1
  • Ok first of all, I KNOW Laura Lane and she's HARMLESS. Second of all, I know Vanessa Bryant as well and she's a fuckin BITCH. I had NEVER EVER liked her and I've been doing the Lakers now for 5 years. She's a LUNATIC. Seriously. Kobe's kinda stuck with her because of the kids but I honestly wouldn't BLAME him for cheating on her because she's CRAZY. She's so uncivilized it's tragic, for starters. She's so rude to everyone that it's ASTONISHING. I don't know how she ever expects anyone to give her any points for "putting up with the situations" if she continues to act so classlessly. Laura is completely right to call her out. If you read that article, what she said was so benign it's a JOKE. She simply said where the tutu's came from and was commenting on wardrobe and activities. BIG DEAL. It's not like she said "We just came from Gymboree on Sunset Blvd in the Palisades". I mean, come on. Maybe now Vanessa will finally see what an asshole she makes of herself constantly and start to mature a little ... much the way her husband has. I'm not saying Kobe's a saint but he has DEFINITELY changed in a lot of ways.
  • I forgot to add "benign". Thanks, Hoops. I agree, without even having to know Laura Lane, that what Miss Vanessa needs is a little "perspective" (I loved Ratatouille). One more thing, keep in mind that Vanessa was in high school when Kobe plucked her from virtual anonymity and made her his wife. Very young. I'm just sayin'...
  • Thanks for the thumbs down. But I still dont see the point to write about the kids... You cant find anything to write about. Not to good at doing your job if you have to write about somebody's kids. It is just useless.
  • Ok,OK,KatKat you win only if thats all she said. But im also with theone too because there really shouldn't be anything said about the kids no matter what it is. Kobe is the MVP of the game,He is the Michael Jordan of our time (please nobody take that the wrong way) and you choose to talk about his Kids.Laura Lane maybe a good person but she just need to know the line. Thats all im sayin. Thanks Kat for the eye opener but im on both sides of the fence on this one......OOOOO yea check my page. The SEC football demands your Respect, Or in 96 days we will Take it !!!
  • If I could give you more than one thumbs up, Check, I would (LOL). I agree that it is inappropriate to disrespect the privacy of someone's kids. But in this context of Vanessa clearly talking about her and her kids outfits, it just seemed like a harmless add-on with no malintent.

Another question (for TheOne, as well): Who is more inappropriate? The woman who reports on a couple of chldren's activities, with no specifics. Or the woman who loudly drops a string f-bombs in front of her 2- & 5-year-old daughters, in a public setting? Hmmm...
  • Dont get me wrong KB's wife was way out of term. But neither are appropriate.

On the flip side, Laura, I heard dirty.com was hiring! :)
  • haha! Maybe Laura Lane would be better on access hollywood's work roster...
  • Not a good look for Vanessa. Obviously, she still has some growing up to do. She could have handled that incident in a more tasteful manner. And the fact that she was using vulgar language infront of the children....WOW!
  • WOW is an understatement. Thumbs up.
