The Charlotte Bobcats have announced head coach Steve Clifford will need a procedure to have two stents placed in his heart and will not coach Friday night's game against the New York Knicks. Bobcats president of basketball operations Rod Higgins says in release that Clifford went to the hospital Thursday night because he was suffering from chest pains. Higgins says Clifford is ''resting comfortably'' in the hospital but it's too early to know when he'll return. Patrick Ewing will serve as Charlotte's acting head coach Friday against his former team. Ewing, the Bobcats' associate head coach, says he's ''a little nervous'' about coaching his first game. Ewing says, ''It's ironic that my first chance to be a head coach will be against a team I played with for 15 years.''

Ramon Sessions’ play pushes Steve Clifford toward more small ball

Charlotte Bobcats coach Steve Clifford is no fan of small ball. He joked at a preseason media luncheon that you go big in the NBA “only if you want to win.” With that in mind, backup point guard Ramon Sessions must have left quite an impression over the last month. Clifford is increasingly playing point guards Kemba Walker and Sessions together this early season. While that...

Coach Ewing's Night Spoiled by the Knicks

From the Hendo to the wall!  Impressive dunk by Gerald Henderson.        Even after having one of the biggest and most well-received summer in free-agency, there are still going to be some nights where our team will still look and play like one of the cellar-dwellers in the NBA. Tonight was definitely one of those nights.        One of the things that...

Bargnani helps Knicks exact revenge on Bobcats

Thank Patrick Ewing for helping solve the Knicks’ latest crisis at center. And thank Carmelo Anthony for a players-only meeting staged Tuesday that woke up the troops. And most of all, thank Andrea Bargnani for turning in a performance worthy of the first overall pick in the draft and worthy of, yes, Knicks legend Patrick Ewing. In Ewing’s head-coaching debut caused by Steve...

Channeling the 1997-98 Knicks

By Charles R. Trimble III When a major injury occurs in the NFL that team is most certainly screwed with only a 16-game sprint of a season, but when that same injury occurs in the 82-game marathon NBA season, all hope shouldn’t be lost. Just take the Ewing-less 1997-98 New York Knicks for example. If any team can provide hope that Tyson Chandler’s injury isn’t the end of the...
