It may not be official. It may not even be completely true, but last night, we may have lost one of the best and maybe even one of the most highly influential players in the NBA. In what seems like to be a career-ending injury, Dikembe Mutombo laid on the ground tonight for several minutes grasping his knee in pain until being carried off on a stretcher.
In what was an illustrious 18 year career...the 42-year old still hung with the best of them in the league, with staggering defense and an intimidating reach, blocking shots at ease. Initially considered to be a knee sprain, further results and examinations will take place in Houston.
After the game, Mutombo in tears told media that basketball ultimately may be over. "I cried so much about it when I was laying on the floor but when I got in the locker room I decided to be positive and thank God for the wonderful 18 years that I had."
And an amazing, unforgettable 18 years it was.
