It was an electric atmosphere last night. Yes, the Boston Celtics are old. KG is now a villain, Paul Pierce is a wuss and Rajon Rondo can’t hit a shot even if they paid him millions of dollars. So it was ideal that the Warriors get a good start to the second half of the season with a big win against one of the championship contenders.
Warriors started off great and played well against the Celtics. Being aggressive and converting old three point plays, the Warriors kept the game close and even took the lead for a moment. But enough offense, lack of Celtics defense and the game was tied at half at 61. But come second half, it was a different team and a different game. Third quarter started and Keith Smart had to call a quick time out literally 4 minutes into the third quarter because the Celtics began a small run.
The Celtics picked up their defense, ran on the Warriors and hit open shots. Though I love the three point shot, the Warriors live and die by the three and the second half the Warriors died by the three. Warriors only hit 5-19 three while washing clean with 11 turnovers and 11 assists. The Celtics outscored the Warriors 55-33 in the second half and never looked back.
The Warriors had pretty even scoring throughout the night but was unable to play good defense. All five starters minus Andris Biedrins were in double digits. Dorell Wright kept the Warriors close by scoring 10 in the first quarter. He would finish the night with 19 points. David Lee showing his physical side punched in with 17 points while drawing a personal and technical foul on Kendrick Perkins. Monta Ellis had a so-so night only finishing with 15 points and 4 turnovers, while Steph Curry, though he finished with 18 points had 5 turnovers and only two assists. With those kinds of numbers, it is almost impossible for the Warriors to sustain and win against elite teams. The Warriors have to continue to hit threes, run on teams and keep their turnovers down, especially from their backcourt.
