So much is being made of Pierce's return after the injury. Phil Jackson's classless remarks reminded me why I really don't like the guy. He had this to say: Paul got carried off and was back on his feet in a minute," Jackson said. "I don't know if the angels visited him in that time-out period or what, but he didn't even limp when he came back out on the floor. I don't know what was going on back there. Was (US preacher) Oral Roberts in their locker room? Perk landed on Pierce's leg and Pierce heard a pop and the knee was hurting. The doctor came over and didn't want to take a chance with the injury and so had him carried off so he wouldn't put weight on it in case it was serious. They didn't know at that point. The wheel chair was so that the guys didn't have to carry him all the way to the locker room. When he got back to the locker room, the knee started to feel a little better and after the Docs looked at the knee, ...

  • lakers still gonna win..boston had the best game they will have this series and are a completley different team on the road
  • Pierce is a tough guy. I will give you that. This isn't hockey where you break your nose and go out in the next period and play. This is basketball. It seems that any time a player hits the floor they grimace like they were shot. I was on the phone with my buddy up in Boston when the play with Pierce happened. We both predicted that he would be back in a few minutes. I'm a Celtics fan but I really don't believe Pierce was that badly hurt. I don't care either. It obviously inspired everybody in the Garden but the Lakers. This is a big game for the Celts coming up. If they can win in Boston again it will be very tough for the Lakers to come back. Boston proved in the Detroit series that once again they are a very tough road team.
  • I dont agree with you calling coach Jackson classles, he is a legend in this game and one of the best coachs of all time. I dont agree with some of things he said regarding pierce's injury but to me it didnt look like pierce was that badly hurt but Jackson should have known better and kept his remarks to himself. I thought it was funny that pierce said that an angle touched him in the locker room and told him that he was ok to play I mean come on this is not a religious war, its a f***ing basketball god is not going to choose sides here.
  • Regardless of whether or not what Jackson did is classless, one thing is certain: He's about to top Red's record. Chew on that for a minute.
  • What Phil said wasn't "classless", simply the truth. He's screaming in pain in near tears and being wheeled off on a wheelchair and then 2 minutes later he's running full speed on fast breaks. Now I will give PP this, he probably was hurt, and feared missing out on the one thing he's worked his whole life to get to more than the actual injury hurt him. But to compare it to Willis Reed?
  • In a few years, no one will even remember Pierce's injury. The memories of second place fade quickly.
  • I didn't see it do I don't know BUT have you never been playing a sport and rolled your ankle or twisted your knee and it resulted in a few minutes of excruciating pain and then it went away? I know it happenned to me in my glory days of sucking in high school sports, and I certainly saw it happen to countless others.
  • Although I do think Pierce is a bit of a drama queen, I'm totally with Wjbrown. I have many times turned an ankle, or hyperextended a knee, playing basketball and thought it was the end of my life. And, no, its not because I'm a girl. The first burst of pain is like dying a slow, career-ending death. And then, all of a sudden, the pain subsides (until late at night when you're turning over in bed), and you're like, "Oh. That's not so bad."
  • Phil's remarks weren't classless, they were funny.
  • phil is a punk just like kobe. and thats simply the truth. Pierce being carried off and than put in a wheel chair was all pre cautionary. i think he was more in pain about the possability of missing the rest of the series at that moment.
  • Kobe is no punk stop hating n recognize that he is the best player on the planet rite now. MVP BABY!!
  • Yessssir.
  • actually, i believe kobe IS a punk.
you can still be the best and be a punk,
even though i don't think he's the best
    on the planet...
i also think he's a selfish player and
    needs to grow up.
  • Phil absolutely was classless, but it is pure gamesmanship on his part, and something I totally expect from him

honestly, I think Red would do the same thing, though in a less smarmy way
  • 2-0
  • Phil is a classless jackass! If Doc and Paul conspired to fake this injury, don't you think they would have planned out how long Paul would be out of the game? And if so, don't you think that the plan would involve missing more than a minute of the game, to appear more real? Those guys aren't that stupid! Paul landed funny, heard a pop, felt pain, and most likely experienced some psychogenic fear. But then, his prognosis immediately turned out better than he, and we, all thought it would be. That's really all there is to it!
