Shawne Williams. Geez. What are we to make of him at this point?
Another arrest. Another incident related to drugs and guns. Another moment that seems to indicate he is completely unable to separate himself from the suspect influences of his hometown Memphis.
I felt for him a little quite some time ago - for some who grew up surrounded by poverty and the crime that grows from that, getting away can be difficult, especially if one feels he owes people for favors done in the past. Not saying that's the case with Williams, but I've written stories in the past about people in such a situation and it does open your eyes.
But Williams was in the NBA. He was a first-round draft pick. He had a guaranteed contract. He had access to agents and advisors and security people who could have helped him.
He had incidents with the Pacers, who drafted him 17th in 2006 (four spots ahead of point guard Rajon Rondo). You probably remember the most stunning moment: A man wanted on a murder ch...
