No reminder is needed about 2006 when the Miami Heat are at home. Plastered all over all walls near the locker room are photos from their comeback Finals win that year over Dallas. As for the last years Finals against the Mavericks, there are no physical reminders. But guard Dwyane Wade believes teammates need to think about that painful loss before they step on the floor for Saturdays first-round opener against New York. If they havent done it already, guys need to take a minute back and go back to that dark place and how we felt and understand what were shooting for, said Wade, who joins forward Udonis Haslem as the only Heat players remaining from the 2006 title team. Its an uphill battle to get there, but we feel we can . If were playing good and other teams are playing good, we feel we should win (the title). We got to go out and do that, but, obviously, we got to look back and we got to feel that pain a little bit to remember. Of the 15 Miami players, 10 remain from last year, when the Heat fell 4-2 to the Mavericks. They lost several fourth-quarter leads in the series, the most damaging a 15-point bulge that disappeared in Game 2, preventing Miami from taking a 2-0 lead. We have a couple of times, Miami coach Erik Spoelstra said about reminding his team about the Dallas loss. Weve revisited it. But I think its also important not to obsess about it. Its all in our consciousness somewhere. Heat forward LeBron James, a nine-year veteran, needs little reminding about last year. It was his best chance to finally win an NBA title, but he disappeared during fourth quarters, drawing plenty of criticism. James took two weeks off after the season, holed up at his home and speaking to few. Finally, he decided it was time to get back to work to claim the one prize that has eluded him. Those two weeks I took off after the season last year when we lost, Ive been preparing from that moment on to get back to this point in the postseason, James said. And how well has James done so far? Let Spoelstra explain. His regular-season performance speaks for itself and the excitement he has going into the second season. Hes played at an MVP level, Spoelstra said of a season in which James averaged 27.1 points, a career-high 7.9 rebounds and 6.2 assists while shooting a career-best 53.1 percent. James looks to be a cinch to win his third MVP. But he was handed the Maurice Podoloff Trophy in 2009 and 2010 when his Cleveland Cavaliers each time had the best record in the NBA, and he didnt add the Larry OBrien Trophy to his resume. So obviously theres plenty of pressure on James as these playoffs get underway. Theres always going to be pressure, James said. This is the biggest stage. Its a second season, its a huge stage. For myself, this is a big part of my season, the best part of my season, so theres going to be pressure. Pressure moments, and you just got to believe in your ability and believe in your teammates and believe in the system, and then you live with it. Wade doesnt deny theres even more pressure on the Heat this season to win it all. After all, this was the guy who said at the start of training camp If we dont win a championship, yes, its a bust year." Last year, it was kind of like, Well, they just got together, " Wade said of James and forward Chris Bosh joining forces with him in the summer of 2010. There werent a lot of people who thought we could win it last year . I think we surprised a lot of people in getting to the Finals. And this year, its more, Well, the Heat got to win it from an outside perspective. But from the inside, we want to win it. The Heat at least are healthier now than they were last year at this time. After missing most of the regular season due to a foot injury, Haslem would sit out the first two playoff series and wasnt himself in the Finals. Swingman Mike Miller also was battered after an injury-plagued regular season. Perhaps having a fully healthy team would have been enough for the Heat to have beaten Dallas. Regardless, what Haslem remembers is how painful it was to lose that series. It felt real bad, he said. It was very, very, very disappointing, especially the way we lost, having fourth-quarter games, and I think the majority of those games not being able to hold them off. It was unfortunate, and definitely, if anything, it motivates us. We got to play every game to the end. If not, when the Heat report to training camp next fall, theyll be greeted with no photos on the wall commemorating a 2012 Finals victory. Wade: No title, Heat season's a bust

As far as Dwyane Wade is concerned, anything short of an NBA title for the Miami Heat would qualify as a lost season. “I say yes," Wade told the South Florida Sun Sentinel. "There's only one champion. It's a failure for every other team. If you don't win a championship, you had a failed year." Teammate LeBron James wouldn’t go that far. "...

LeBron James says he lost touch with the type of player he was last season

Whether you root for LeBron James or you root against him, the recent SI piece that Lee Jenkins wrote on James is a must-read. It's an introspective look into LeBron's mindset over the last couple years coming from a position of balance, and I'd suggest you read the article in its entirety. Below are some snippets of that, with first the part that most people are talking...

10 great players without an NBA Title

1. LeBron James (2003-Present)James is only 26 and has plenty of time to win an NBA title, but for now the two time MVP has zero championships in eight seasons.  James played in the finals with the Cleveland Cavaliers and Miami Heat in 2007 and 2011. 2. Karl Malone (1985-2004)Malone unfortunately played at the same time as Michael Jordan. The Mailman lost twice to the Bulls in the...

Wade will be ready for playoffs

Anyone who watched the San Antonio Spurs’ playoff collapse last year has to be weary of late-season injuries. Manu Ginobili was injured in the last game of the season and the Spurs weren’t able to recover and lost to the 8th-seeded Memphis Grizzlies in the first round of the playoffs. Miami Heat fans must have had a few flashes to Ginobili’s injury when Dwyane Wade left the...

LeBron James Says Failure to Win Title Wouldn't Be 'a Failure,' But It Would Be 'a Disappointment'

It's all about the wording, apparently, when it comes to LeBron James. There are plenty of NBA fans and media alike who think that up to this point in his career, James has been a failure. It's true that James is under pressure and scrutiny like no other, but at least in the recent past, he has wilted under that pressure and scrutiny. Once again, his Heat enter the NBA playoffs...

LeBron James kicks off the playoffs with a couple of excellent flops (Video)

Until he wins a championship ring, critics will continue to question whether or not LeBron James has what it takes to lead his team in the postseason. Now that Derrick Rose is out for the season with a torn ACL, he should have an even better opportunity to prove the doubters wrong this year. One thing you cannot question, however, is LeBron’s ability to draw a call in the playoffs...

Golem LeBron James now has two new friends

Back in February we introduced you to an 18-foot tall LeBron James statue built by Florida’s Primetime Amusements to amuse honor LeBron and the Miami Heat. At the time I wondered how a statue of LeBron honored the Heat, and now two months later we have our answer: because he was only the first of a team of colossal monsters. Well, a team of three. Nobody’s smushing together...

LeBron James Catches Heat Following Flop That Draws Flagrant Foul on Tyson Chandler (Video)

The NBA: Where Flopping Happens. If there's one thing that most NBA fans hate more than LeBron James, it's flopping. So when James hit the deck during Saturday's Heat-Knicks first-round clash, it sent the Twitter world into a frenzy. James' apparent flop came as the second quarter was winding down. With New York bringing the ball up the floor, Knicks center Tyson...

LeBron James and the indictment that is his third MVP

LeBron James of the Miami Heat is about to win his third MVP. That’s right, “Not one, not two, but three (Cue the smoke and music ‘bum, bum, bum’).” With his this MVP, LeBron will solidify himself as the best player of his generation (I’m not sure this is breaking news. I mean who is better than him? The only person close to him in this generation is Dwyane Wade, and...

LeBron looks like man on a mission

MIAMI LeBron James' road to redemption began Saturday by leading the Miami Heat to a 100-67 beatdown of the New York Knicks. He was as fabulous, dominating and frighteningly talented in his first game of the 2012 playoffs as he was responsible for the loss in last year's Finals collapse. It was the performance of a maestro: LeBron had 32 points, four rebounds, three assists...

Knicks-Heat Preview

LeBron James started thinking about what a playoff opener against the New York Knicks would mean a few days ago. Amare Stoudemire started talking about taking down the Miami Heat a few months ago. Here they are. One of the most hotly contested NBA postseason rivalries of a generation ago is about to be rekindled. The second-seeded Heat open defense of their Eastern Conference...

Heat-Wizards Preview

The Miami Heat appear content resting their stars in preparation for whomever they might face in the first round of the playoffs. One of the reasons they eased up in the race for the Eastern Conference's top seed is because of a home loss to the Washington Wizards over the weekend. The Heat, who again will likely be without LeBron James, Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh, conclude...

Does Carmelo have more on the line than LeBron?

Carmelo Anthony versus LeBron James may be the most exciting matchup that we’ll see all post-season. Two tremendous NBA talents go head-to-head with a lot more on the line than just winning a game or a series. James has to try to piece together the first (of many) championships he promised when he ditched Cleveland for the sunny beaches of Miami. Not one… Not two… Not three…...

TPBT Season Awards

Most Valuable Player Award Lebron James What has happened to Lebron’s game this season is remarkable. He has taken his game inside the perimeter and in the paint more than he has ever done in the past (about time), often playing the lone force in the paint for the Miami Heat. Since this change, his efficiency has improved (53% shooting this year, up 5% for his career)...
