Andy FlintMuch to the dislike of Nuggets’ fans and viewers alike, Greg Popovich, and the San Antonio Spurs deployed their secret weapon late in the 3rd quarter of Tuesday night’s action against the Nuggets in Denver. That weapon you ask? The Hack-O-Shaq, or Hack-O-Howard… or whatever clever terms we can come up with for intentionally fouling JaVale McGee (note that I tried and the creative juices aren’t exactly flowing, or perhaps there just isn’t anything that really fits JaVale, or McGee). Greg Popovich is always in the mood to send a poor free throw shooter to the stripe. Ask Shaquille O’Neal and Dwight Howard. They’ve both felt the wrath of Pop’s hacking ways. Some fans see it as a great strategy, and some see it as a goofy rule that should be banned from the association. Popovich seems to have a pretty good reason for employing this specific strategy last night against McGee, and it wasn’t necessarily a mental game against the young center, but more of a means to an end. Pop claims that his (older) Spurs team was gassed. “They [Nuggets] were scoring every time. And we were running out of gas, running out of energy. So we figured if we could go up-and-down a few times and not even have to play any defense it might put some fuel back in the tank and it did,”Popovich said. “During that period we couldn’t knock down a couple of threes and it [the lead] stayed 9, 10, or 11 or whatever. We couldn’t get below it [double digit lead] because we couldn’t make a shot, but it gave us a little bit of rest and helped us stay in it.” McGee shot so poorly from the charity stripe that he made teammate, Kenneth Faried puke all over Denver’s bench. Just kidding, but seriously, Faried did nearly yack on Ty Lawson’s sneakers, but I can’t be positive that it was because of JaVale’s poor showing at the line. I’d like to imagine that were the case though. Popovich’s theory may have some legs, being that the Spurs were finishing a tough back-to-back series after losing in Oklahoma City Thunder on Monday night. We all know that the Spurs core isn’t getting any younger, so Pop’s story seems plausible. I’d also like to mention that the Spurs plan worked pretty well. McGee, a 40% free throw shooter on the season, only managed to go 4 of 10 from the line (right on par) and only finished with 10 points in 11 minutes of play. The Spurs also managed to go on a 31-22 run in the 4th quarter and ultimately cut a 15 point Denver lead to a 6 point Denver win. As the Nuggets were able to stave off the surging Spurs and hold on to a 112-106 win at home. Popovich’s plan to get his aging players some well-needed rest almost worked. Video: Kenneth Faried vomits on bench, sends Nuggets teammates fleeing

Professional basketball requires a great deal of exertion and physical stamina. And sometimes, the rigors of the sport are too much for any one human being to handle. This was the case for Denver Nuggets forward Kenneth Faried during the fourth quarter of Tuesday night's 112-106 victory over the San Antonio Spurs. Watch as his regurgitation episode sends teammates Ty Lawson and...

Kenneth Faried vomits into towel on bench

Ah, nothing like having the flu. I ain't mad at you Kenneth, this was me last week, minus sitting on the bench during a timeout at work but I had the flu.  Ty Lawson was also sick as apparently the Denver Nuggets are very close as a team, they even share their own drinks. This is my only logical explanation to having multiple players with the flu on the team.  Or maybe none...

Nuggets set record for three-point futility

Someone might want to check the rims at the Rose Garden.  Just 10 days after the Blazers set a dubious NBA record by missing all 20 of their three-point attempts in a win over Toronto, the Nuggets have broken it in the very same building.  On the eve of the apocalypse, Denver went an astonishing 0-22 from beyond the three-point arc, but that’s not all.  Until the 38-second mark...

NBA History Profile: 5 Greatest Denver Nuggets Of All-Time

The Denver Nuggets have had a plethora of talented players donning their uniform, but who are the five greatest Nuggets to ever play in the Mile High City? Spurs' woes continue with loss to Nuggets

DENVER (AP) -- Danilo Gallinari scored a season-high 28 points, outlasting Tim Duncan down the stretch and leading the Denver Nuggets over the San Antonio Spurs 112-106 on Tuesday night. Duncan had 31 points -- also a season best -- to go along with 18 rebounds for the Spurs, who closed a 15-point lead to three with 3:38 left before the Nuggets closed it out for their third straight...

Pop raves about rookie De Colo

San Antonio Spurs head coach Gregg Popovich has gotten the reputation from Spurs fans that he doesn't usually play rookies, especially with a veteran team around them. This year is different and this player isn't exactly a rookie either since he's played professional basketball overseas.  Nando De Colo has been described as "Manu Ginobili Jr." by some...

Danilo Gallinari, Denver Nuggets “Rips” San Antonio’s Heart, Right Popovich?

I’ve been too many games at the Pepsi Center to see the tenacious San Antonio Spurs defeat the Denver Nuggets, and although the Nuggets had the benefit of having fresh legs, nothing should be put past the Spurs in the regular season. Luckily, Danilo Gallinari had a spectacular night — maybe not efficient — but [...]The post Danilo Gallinari, Denver Nuggets “Rips” San Antonio’s...

Kenneth Faried Puked on the Team Bench Last Night (Video)

The Denver Nuggets beat up on the San Antonio Spurs last night 112-106.  Kenneth Faried had a solid game dropping 19 points and grabbing 11 rebounds.  Faried balled for 29 minutes last night and in the 4th quarter he couldn't take any more.  During a time out with 9:07 left in the game he puked in a towel on the team bench.  That sent teammates Ty Lawson and Kosta Koufos...

Even with Duncan’s big night, Spurs fall to Nuggets

31 points, 18 rebounds, 6 assists, 5 blocks, 2 steals, 9-of-10 free throws, and just 2 turnovers in 40 minutes of play. The above numbers were produced by San Antonio Spurs forward Tim Duncan on Wednesday in the Spurs’ 112-106 loss to the Denver Nuggets, just a day after the Spurs fell to the Oklahoma City Thunder. The first, second, and fourth quarters were all competitive...

Despite strong Nuggets performance, Ginobili says he has a ways to go

San Antonio Spurs guard Manu Ginobili returned from his quad injury last night against the Denver Nuggets, finishing with a strong performance of 16 points, six assists, six rebounds and two steals in a losing effort,  but it's clear the all-star guard has a ways to go before he's back to 100 percent. In an interview on elpatagonico.net, Ginobili, who has suffered his...

Kevin Durant Swats Josh Smith

In case you haven’t noticed, Kevin Durant is ridiculously good. His offense has always been there, but the rest of his game is what is beginning to really impress people. We just showed you his chase down block on James Anderson of the Spurs, so of course, he decided to follow it up with another impressive defensive display. If you still have some doubts about Durant’s ability...
