When we reported a week ago that Mike Krzyzewski would not return as head coach of Team USA, speculation began to spread as to who exactly would be the best candidates to replace coach K. Now, according to Jason Lloyd of the Akron Beacon Journal, we have an idea of some potential candidates. Boston Celtics head coach Doc Rivers, and San Antonio Spurs head coach Gregg Popovich are two of the most likeliest candidates to replace coach K as the head man of the USA roster. It appears that Popovich has coveted the USA job for years now, and would be inclined to take the job if formerly offered. Rivers is not to be dismissed though, as nearly every current player on the USA roster has great respect for the coach. “Rivers is a strong candidate because of his reputation and the fact the league’s stars — and ultimately the Team USA roster — love him,” Lloyd writes in the article. I think either of these two candidates would continues to lead Team USA in the right direction. With a combined 5 championship rings, winning is a priority to both.

Your Morning Dump… Where KG has gotten smarter

Every morning, we compile the links of the day and dump them here… highlighting the big storyline. Because there’s nothing quite as satisfying as a good morning dump. “We’ve given him more time off this year than we ever have for him,” Rivers said. “In the past, we couldn’t even brooch that subject with him. This year, he wants the days off. So, I think he’s gotten...

Pop weighs in on vacant Team USA coaching spot

In the aftermath of the 2004 Olympic catastrophe, most people believed that San Antonio Spurs' Gregg Popovich’s chance of coaching the USA Olympic Team was bleak at best.  Then today comes the news Popovich could be among the possible candidates who might replace Coach Mike Krzyzewski as the coach of the USA Olympic Men’s Basketball team. Team USA's Craig Miller...

Reports: Doc is leaving it up to Pierce whether he takes a night off or not

Doc Rivers is leaving it up to Paul Pierce whether or not he should sit out a game to help recuperate the pinched nerve in his neck. Doc Rivers Adds Defensive Wrinkle to Slow Down Stephen Curry in Celtics’ Win Over Warriors

BOSTON — It was not a rhetorical question, though it may have seemed like one. As the Celtics prepared Friday morning to face the Golden State Warriors that night, coach Doc Rivers wondered aloud, “How many times have they been zoned?” The answer was about what one would expect against a squad like the Warriors, who have arguably the league’s top shooting backcourt in Stephen...

Rivers may have edge over Pop for Team USA coaching job

The search for the next head coach of the USA men’s basketball team has unofficially been narrowed down to two candidates. The popular opinion is that the job will go to either the San Antonio Spurs’ Gregg Popovich or the Boston Celtics’ Doc Rivers. Either of the two would be a great pick. Their resumes and reputations speak for themselves. If you have to give an edge to...

Bradley leads C’s Sunday workout

As John wrote earlier today, Doc Rivers, Paul Pierce, Jet & KG were all absent from today’s workout. So who kept things organized while the vets & head coach were away? New guys get plenty of practice time

With Paul Pierce, Kevin Garnett, Jason Terry and Doc Rivers all taking the day off (well, Doc was sort of taking the day off… he was up in Maine watching his son Jeremiah and the Red Claws), the new guys got a lot of work in during practice. “Doc has contacted everyone, we know what he wants to run, what we have to do as far as the offense, defense, running through plays and...

Avery Bradley might not be 100%

As tough as this might be to comprehend considering what he’s able to do out there, both Kevin Garnett and Doc Rivers said today that they don’t think Avery Bradley is 100% this season: “Although he isn’t really loud, he’s very vibrant,” added Garnett. “I don’t think he’s 100 percent [healthy], which is scary. I think he’s still working through some things with...
